Give each connection a different ipaddress. The reason you have to disable one connection for the other to work is because you are getting the same ipaddress from your modem. Set your modem to DHCP so that each connection gets a different address and it wont matter anymore if both of them are enabled.
If you dont know how to give your connections manually just right click on my network places, right click on the connection, double click on ipaddress and set the ip address manually.
If you need anymore help feel free to contact me via yahoo IM or email.

Good Luck to you!

For a newb, you did the same thing I would have by disabling the wireless, and I've been here for years!

OK - Go to your start menu and select "Network Connections". If its not there, it may be on your desktop - just double click. If its not there too, it WILL be in your control panel (show the classic view on the left).

In the window that opens up, you will see a "View" menu at the top. Click on view, and select "Details". Look for the "Local Area Connection". You should also see your "Wireless Network Connection". To the righ of each in the "Status" column, your Local Area Connection should be "Connected, Firewalled" when you have the cable plugged in and have a good internet connection. If it says something else, do a right-click on the "Local Area Connection" (use the right button on the mouse-your middle finger-no pun intended) and select "Repair".

Wait a few seconds and you should get a message that it had done its thing. At this point, you 'should' be all set. If not, power off your router and power it back on after 10 seconds.

All you need is one good connection for you to be on the net. If you have more than one (wireless AND lan), then the lowest MAC address will win, so its a good idea to disable your wireless when physically connected via lan.

First confirm you're related to the internet via going to Google or something. you're right here so i'll assume you're in a position to get on line. ;) the subsequent element to do may be to disable any firewalls you have on your laptop to work out in the event that they could be retaining you from connecting (do no longer forget approximately homestead windows firewall working in the history!). If it rather isn't any longer the case, make particular the port the pastime is employing is forwarded on your router OR confirm that your router has UPnP (well-known plug n play) enabled and that the pastime you're enjoying is able to employing UPnP to open up the port it desires.

try turning computer off by normal means ( ie start menu), then unplug from ac source then, pull battery, press the power on button for 5-10 sec. restore batt and ac source then turn on laptop an see if your lan card has reset itself.
