Most houses have a telephone line connected even though the actual telephone service isn't activated. In some areas it is possible to subscribe for internet service using the line, without having a phone number associated to the line.

Other existing services are cable, wireless, and in some areas also data-over-electricity lines.

You might also ask your neighbour if you could pull a LAN cable from his place, or set up a wireless station, but do note that most of the time this would be in violation of the contract with his ISP.

I connect when I'm out and about on my laptop via my cellphone.

I connect at home on my desktop to Comcast cable.

When I'm on my Pocket PC, I connect via GPRS. Should I need to I can connect my PPC to my desktop OR laptop and connect through it. I've never needed to.

I don't even have a home phone line. Besides, phone-line internet sucks, is slow, and for the birds. Mostly dodos -- which are extinct for a reason, in case ya didn't notice.

:) ;)

Get the Internet service through your cable provider, its relatively cheap and the connection is pretty fast. Otherwise if you've got wireless try and see if you can pick up someone else's wireless Internet that they don't have password protected. haha
