You count from the day you start spotting to the day you get your next period. On avg. it is the 14th day of your cycle. So if you get your period on the 1st-you ovulate on the 14th or 15th.

Spotting - as this indicates the drop in hormone levels that causes your period and starts the cycle for that month.
