What's the point in getting married?

Most seniors only live together because if they get married they lose some or all their social security...A-lot have been married and their spouse has passed away and then they receive money until they die or unless they re-marry...So it's more practical to live together..Also they have been through the married thing before and don't want to do it again some because of loyalty to their deceased spouse.. I think they also like the idea of being able to live together and not be judged the way people were when they were younger!!

Ever heard the saying "Why buy the cow when you can have the milk for free."? I know that's a little crass, but because seniors are wise enough in years to recognize the complications of marriage, confident and self-accepting enough to realize that they really just want companionship and not care what society thinks. Why make things harder than they need to be.

Because they get more money from social security if they are single. If the women are collecting from their deceased spouses social security the payments will stop if they get married.
Isn't this a great little way the government screws our elderly? They make them choose between their beliefs and eating and paying rent. Nice.

why do young people live togather rather than get married? think about it. there are all sorts of reasons.

Tax breaks (avoid the marriage tax flaw) and keeping the families happy (they get freaked out about the wills)...
