What is the average cost of maid service?
For a two story home how much would you guess it would cost to have it cleaned once a week?

I'm in CA and there is a lot of competition. For an individual housekeeper it runs $8-10 an hour. On the higher side for licensed, bonded, insured and English speaking. For a housekeeping service that is corporate run, generally they charge a first time fee between $100-150 then $15-20 an hour thereafter. They are always licensed, bonded and insured. They usually have a crew of 3-4 people and therefore get the job done faster and charge less for weekly service than they do bi-weekly or monthly. There is a range because some will bring their own cleaning supplies and tools (i.e. vacuums, dusters, etc.) and some will use whatever you have and want used. For example, I have a lot of types of stone (marble, granite, limestone, travertine) in my home which require specialized care, so I want my own products used so I know they are properly cared for.

Well every blue moon when my place is so disastrous I can't stand it I will look in the paper and get someone in here to help me get re-organized again. It's hard to find anyone for less than $15/hour (where I live, Canada) but I have a woman now who said she charges $80 for working 9-3...which isn't bad...I know Molly Maid charges $75 hour (no thanks!)..they send 2 or 3 people and work as a team...but one person might take a few weeks to get your house up to snuff coming in once a week...or longer...depending what shape it's in! :~)

A maid service or a housekeeper/ Those two are very different situations. Usually a maid is a live in full or part time help. They require a salary usually. It's based on their experience and there skills, and of course what they do extra for you.
A housekeeper would come to your home once a week or twice a month. The going rate for a decent housekeeper is about $120.00. Then again it depends on if there are children, or if you have her do laundry. Without any extra activities such as laundry or base board washing, I would pay $100-125.
For a two story home probably the entire thing $175.00-$200.
