To anyone who said that you have to be atleast 5'8 or so to be a model, that's completely not true. There is Petite modeling for stores like Pac Sun and Abercrombie. They always need shorter people to model their shorter cut pants.
As far as telling your parents...they'll probably be confused at first unless you've expressed and interest in it previously. Know what you're talking about and state a good arguement. Be passionate about it. Although, you're only 14. ONLY 14. You don't need to be making life changing decisions now. That stuff can't wait until much later. Enjoy your youth and don't try and push this modeling dream of yours over the edge. If you believe that you're going to be this big time model by the time you're 16, and then it doesn't happen, you'll be crushed. And everything you've worked for will just fall to ruins. Have other interests and hobbies, just incase modeling doesn't work out for you.
Models, yes, are in fact generally skinny. Especially if you're short...petite modeling will be your field. And petite means small all around. But eating HEALTHY and WORKING OUT can easily help you out. The only thing that matters though if that you're comfortable and confident in yourself. Confidence is key. If you don't believe in yourself or love yourself, no one else will believe in you or love you back. Try your best to be yourself. Don't become a clone of some one else. Be unique.
Models aren't always the most beautiful girls. Be happy with who you are.

Let's get this straight once and for all. Modeling means you 'WORK' and they pay you! What part of 'they pay you' has anything to do with your (or your parents) current financial status? NOTHING!
Next order of business, pictures... Get a friend to take some with a digital camera. Get a another friend to print them out for free (or do it yourself)! Work at it. Take 500 at least, pic the best. Focus on making them professional looking.
Now take those pictures and go to craigslist.org. Apply for free and paid gigs as a model, at worst you will build a reputation and at best you will start to get paid.
You may find a few 'pie in the sky' offers along the way, BEWARE these end in a request for your money. Anybody can be a model. If you have a gift, your size and acne don't matter. It is all in your eyes and attitude. Hold on to your dream and follow your heart and the rest will make sense.

First, be glad that you have a dream. It is your vision of the future. That's great. Will it turn out just exactly the way it looks to you today? No. Life always has some surprises and changes in store for us, but the dream gives you a sense of direction. A path to follow. Help your parents see this. Help them understand that you are getting older now and that you want to begin to think about pursuing some things that you feel good about trying. Let them know that you are old enough to keep all of this in perspective. And thank them in advance for helping you explore it.

You should talk to your parents calmly, maybe in the car or at dinner. Try getting a scholarship too and pay attention to your grades. You don't have to be a sexy, skinny model. These days curves are in, so you can be curvaciously sexy and still be a respected model! Just be a good role model and everything will start from there. Good luck and I want you being happy!

sorry hun, but to be a model u have to be at least 5'8, 5'7 at the least! also, you are only 14, and what would u wanna model for? make SURE u get modeling assginments and tryout through a modeling agent! they will take a face shot of u, and then decide whether u have talent or not. or else they could scam u for a lot of money and maybe even worse! tell ur parents, and if they say no, then thats that...at least...until ur 18 ;-)

you know what how about you and you friends get together the friends who will support you then talk about how you could do a neighborhood fashion show and someone can be the designer and then the rest of you can be models but you no how there are categorys like swimsuit, everyday casual, formal, and special ocassion. well put you friends into categorys then since you are the one who really wants to be a model have a special outfit that compliments you and be the star of the show. you can put up fliers all ovey your town and who knows what will happen

Wait until you reach 5'6 ( the minimum high for the model), you can tell your parent that you want to try out for American Next top Model. I believe you only have to pay the airline ticket.
Good luck
