There was a hugh fear of communism in the '50s and you could write about McCarthyism and the blaclisting of actors in Hollywood during this period. The movie about Edward Murrow "Good Night and Good Luck" would explain more on this subject.
Also, in the fifties the nuclear family was the "norm" and people tried to be like "Ozzie and Harriet" - the perfect family. That could be another essay.
Or the economic advantages of the generation in the 50s, where homes and cars were affordable, and these families went up within the middle class.
Best wishes.

An interesting one would be an essay on the invention of the nuclear powered jet engine for the military, it was never put into production but it would make a good essay.

Well may I suggest television. Television was probably the biggest invention or new technology of 1950's. With shows and new soaps operas it brought feminization to the tube. Plus racial divides and civil rights were noticeable on early sitcoms and broad casted them daily.

the 1950s was a period with lots of political movement, wars, and the start of rock n roll music...you can certainly find something there on...especially with discimination and the civil rights movement...
i would pick one of those ideas and stick to it...instead of writing about all of them...cause you would end up with a pretty long tiring paper....
good luck

Why don't you stay within the same theme and do a paper on **** Clark and American Bandstand. You could also do one on the influence of Motown.
