I'm an atheist, and it's so hard to find any meaning in life. My motto is be happy, and you've lived a good life. I don't believe in much else anymore.

Hey "Morbid Thoughts"--Just by saying "...it's so hard to find any meaning in life" makes me wonder if you truly ARE an atheist. I've never known an atheist who pondered the "meaning of life."
LIFE is to THRIVE; there isn't any "meaning." Once you get into that arena, in comes the parade of other questions that religious people are always asking, (or answering for the rest of us). Oh dear, I can already see the thumbs down! I haven't any problems with religious or non-religious people, but as an atheist, NO, it shouldn't be hard at all. We set our own standards, not out of fear or reward, & take full responsibility. What a great & free way to live! What else ought you to "believe" in????

Wow! I should look at other answers before I answer! I had NO IDEA many atheists were suicidal!!! Gosh. I'd think they'd have less reason, since they don't believe they were BORN IN SIN. You really opened yourself for those who would love to convert you. (I'm certain they are all very sincere, & if "serving" & "obeying" & having "faith" comforts them, then I'm happy for them.)

Do you want to find meaning and happiness in your life? Is your mind open to the possibility that there is a Creator who cares for you and wants you to be happy? If so I recommend that you read Isaiah 48:17,18 and Matthew 5:3-9 to begin. Then just open your eyes to the beauty that is all around you and reflect appreciatively on it. Certain things will begin to become clear. (Romans 1:20)

I personally feel like you need to have a belief system to ground you and make you feel like there is a greater purpose in life and that we are not just randomly going about the business of living for nothing.

I'm atheist and I'm very happy. I have a great husband, a fantastic daughter (who happens to be a christian) We are a big happy family because we allow each other to be ourselves.
The only thing I find difficult about being an atheist is defending myself to other people.

not really. i dont see myself as atheist - perhaps like an enlightened agnostic. i believe a god exist in some way but i question the church and the bible and all that.

it is hard sometimes, not knowing what exactly to believe in.

but i also believe that there is no tomorrow :]

Well, I am a Christian with an amazing relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When you don't have someone to look up to that is better than you it feels like there is no real meaning in you life. I think that if you love Christ, than that brings happiness.

the reason y u r unhappy and dont find any meaning in life is bcos u wont let God into your life. if you let God take control, you will be happier than you have ever been.

why dont you give it a try, u've got absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain

=)

it can be hard at times, especialy when someone close to you dies. i know i would love to believe that i will see them again, but i dont beleive this is true. i agree with you, all you can do is try to live the best you can and do what makes you happy.

I thought I was an atheist for 49 years. But it is much easier to have Faith. I think you are having doubts about it. I'll pray for you.
