The pelvic exam shouldn't hurt and you should go to a doctor that you feel comfortable enough communicating with if you start feeling tense.

The first part involves a metal or plastic speculum that's inserted which can be uncomfortable because docs need to start heating the tools in advance!! But it's not that bad. While it's in they take a sample for the pap smear and you can't really feel anything.

The bi manual exam is when the doc slides fingers inside and using a hand on the outside of your abs can feel the location of your uterus and other organs.

Most docs end the appointment with a breast exam.

It's not as fun as a day at the disney land, but I think you'll be fine. Treat yourself to something nice afterwards. :)

Though the pelvic exam may be an awkward experience, it should not be painful. You may feel pressure that can be uncomfortable but should not feel pain. Tell your clinician if this is not the case.

Here is are a couple of websites where they tell you more about it. It is scary when you don't know what to expect. My first one was when I joined the military. That was very scary. I had no idea. Yours will be better since you will have a little more knowledge than I did. Try to relax and take deep breaths and you will be fine.

Well, it's not the most pleasant experience you'll have, but certainly necessary. It will be uncomfortable for a short time. The Dr. will insert a tool called a speculum into the vagina to open it so he/she can visualize the cervix. Then a swab will be taken of the tissues there. Bimanual exam means the Dr. will insert fingers into the vaginal vault and the other hand will push on top of your lower abdomen to position your uterus and attached parts so he/she can tell if they are ok. Then he/she may do a rectal exam, manually, to check for any abnormalities.
You will survive it, we all do.

The bi manual exam is when the gyn inser one finger in your vagina and the other in your anus.

As for a pelvic exam, no it's no supposed to hurt normally. It can weird and some parts might be a little uncomfortable for a first timer but it should not hurt. If it hurts tell you gyn.

What I suggest you if it's your first visit, is to tell the gyn that and ask him/her to tell you what he is doing. That's often reassuring and it helps being more comfortable.

When I've had my pelvic exams is hasn't hurt. It's more embarrassing than painful to me. Tell them though if they are hurting you.

Good luck & Happy Holidays

It doesn't hurt if your doctor is considerate and gentle. It is an important exam that no woman really wants to have. The doctor will partially insert an instrument to widen your vagina, and that might feel cold.

Just wait until you have to have a mammogram! That usually does hurt!

If you really tense up your body, you will be more uncomfortable than if you try really hard to relax it. But no, they are not painful and they are very important to get done.
