My girlfriend currently owns the home that we live in. Since I pay bills equally, what would happen to the house if anything ever happened to her? Would I have to move into a new place or would I be able to have the house signed over to me?

You may want to get some legal documentation written up so that you get her assets in the unfortunate event that she dies or something happens to her. As a same sex couple, you have no rights over anything unless you specify it in a legal will or something. Also, it would be a good idea for you and her to go to a lawyer and get a DPOA written up in the event that something happens and you need to be the person making decisions, if you dont have that, hospitals can and will deny you that right. Here is a prime example of the reason we need to be able to legally get married. To bad our stupid conservative nation will not open there eyes and see that eh?

IF she has life insurance & the money were to go to you in the event of her death, you could purchase the home out right. Propert just doesn't get signed over, you'll have to be financed if she leaves or dies. Hopefully she won 't leave or die & you all live happily ever after.

It depends on where you live and if you two are legally married. Odds are if something were to happen to her, either the government or her family would take the house and you'd be kicked to the curb.

well u and her should talk about it. it will probably go to her family. but u can talk to her and tell her to get some type of life insurance plan and tell her to make out some kind of legal document stating that the house will go to u if something happens to her.

2 choices: either have BOTH your names on the title or she needs to make up a will.
