right hi all!! ive got a chemistry predicament..anybody clever please feel free to answer asap! right well i got glucose and oxygen then its balanced to give 6 carbon dioxide and 6water..i have to calculate its heat change...theres a couple to be done! can anyone help..please...

You need to find the heats of formation of each species (will come from a standard table) and use this equation to get the heat of reaction:

(delta)H = sum of heat of formation of products - sum of heat of formation of reactants

Each heat of formation will be multiplied by its stoichiometric ratio, and the physical state will be important (especially that of water, as the heat of formation of steam is higher than that of liquid water). You will not find a heat of formation for oxygen gas, because by definition there is no heat of formation for an element.

in the chapter this question came there is a chart that lists the "heat energy" associated with each molecule. add them for the right side (products) and subtract from the reactants (left side). if there are 6 molecules multiply by 6 the "heat energy" of one.
