So I'm building a DNA model, with the whole double helix and everything. Anyone have any suggestions as to what creative materials I could use to build it?

thanks!

You could try lots of things, like:
beads
foam balls with pieces of wood to hold the sides together
paper mache
clay

Really anything that you can mold or put together would work.

I did this once, and used "pipe cleaners" (those wires coated in funny fuzzyness). It worked admirably well.

This was when I was in college and volunteering at a community arts fair; another guy from my school attempted to make a representation of a Turing machine out of pipe cleaners. But that's something else.

Make the whole thing out of bottle rockets and fireworks. And you can blow it away after you get graded. Or those fibre optic wires with lights. Make it look like christmas tree.

You could cut out the parts, say cardboard, like Watson and Crick did. Of course, they had their parts machined for there use.

you could use a grape vine as the double helix, as it can be bent into shape

You might try:
Legos
Fruits (you might want to try plastic fruit) (Use apples to stand for one of the four base pairs, oranges for another, etc.)
"Fake" Jewels
Beads from Mardi'gra necklaces
