He may be a racist jerk but don't rise to that bait. (then again it less possible that it was an innocent question. (some people are clueless in the geography department), Tell him you have no idea, because you never have been there and have no family there. You might also inform him that you from a cool place called the D.R. and that Spanish is your mother tongue.
If he persists and makes another potentially racist comment wish him a good day and leave and do not bother with him any more. Please remember that he does not define you. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and we are all entitled to ignore stupid opinions, and stupid racist ones..

Say that's ignorant and intimidating that because you are black you are assumed you are from Africa. There a black people throughout the Earth. You don't appreciate the stereotype. I'm from the Dominican Republic, are you intelligent enough to know where that is? WAIT FOR AN ANSWER!

Tell him it's going good in the Dominican Republic. And if the guy is stupid enough he might think that the Dominican Republic is in Africa. GOOD LUCK.

He's a jerk. What can you do? And the truth is he probably also meant to insult you. Nobody can just assume that a black person is an African. Africa is quite large too. Can anyone believe you could make a statement that applies to all of Africa? Tell him where you're from, tell him that you assume he knows that Africa as large as it is, does not include the Domincan Republic. And tell him that his question is so ignorant, it is offensive. And if he plays innocent and tries and make you defensive, say you ain't buying it, and walk away.
