I think your generalizing a little too much here; the U.S. is a rather large country and as such its citizens are of very diverse opinions. It doesn't matter what nationality, culture, religion or what not that you are, it only matters what your attitude is. I mean, if your a snob then, no I'm not going to like you, but that goes for American as well French or anything else for that matter.
As for why French people dislike American's, its probably not so much what we did, in your terms, but rather why we did what we did. Also, the reason probably is the same as with rest of the world. I mean the U.S. approving ratings have gone down drastically since 2000, probably because since the terrorist attacks we have all become a bit too paranoid (not that we don’t have a tiny bit of reason there), and little too snobby and self-righteous, not all Americans are like that though. I think allot of what the world sees and who Americans really are, are two different things. However what the world is shown is the actions by our politician, celebrities...etc, and the way they often represent us is unfortunate, to say the least. I hope I didn't go too much off subject there ; ). I also hope I helped...

The Irish like the French. We do get the feeling over here too that Americans have a certain disdain for the French. It is quite amazing since the American and French Revoultionaries were admirers of each other. Shows what 200 years does to relationships.
Also all the French didnt give up, there were many people in resistance during the second world war, and I dont see the American's calling the Belgiums or Dutch cowards as they were taken over as well as France.

I'm French and I'm a bit shocked by the rude comments too. Personally, I don't hate Americans. I don't always agree with their foreign policy (especially nowadays) and this sort of things but I reckonized that they have good sides and many American writers are great.
I'm happy people in New Zealand don't hate us because I think it's a beautiful country with nice people even if I didn't meet any. And I love the Irish.

Well, when I had to stop in Paris on my way to Casablanca, the people representing that company - the French men and women, that is, were extremely rude. They were very arrogant and even though they were employed to provide customer service, all they did was provide a horrible accent of ignorance.
I happen to work with some and only one is nice - doesn't have a problem with working with others. The others...total azzz...

We mostly just don't like the whole attitude of the French. I have a good French friend and sometimes I wanna smack him with a phone book.

No, I'm Canadian, part French and I don't like the French at all. Most are arrogant freaks.
