According to Freud, the human mind is made up of three parts: the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the instinct-driven, animalistic part of the mind. It acts impulsively for immediate gratification. The superego is the righteous, self-denying part, which acts based on socially accepted concepts of right and wrong, even if they lead to physical discomfort. The ego acts as an intermediary, balancing the two. The ego is also the only conscious component of the mind. Therefore, at least in Freud's definition, the ego is absolutely essential to a healthy, well balanced mind.

EGO: Edging God Out

In some schools of thought ego is where we have abandoned our Creator and are trying to do it all ourselves, our way. Because we are having a temporary human experience who and what we are isn't our natural state and ego has become our temporary state.

So I don't think ego is a bad thing.....not something to feel bad about. It's just a state of being. Or rather a state where we are out of Being (our natural state).

I love the idea that we are Spirit having a human experience.

Chuck Spezzano said that ego is everything this side of Oneness.

ego is the balance between onself... there are two forces that affects an ego's sense of balance, they are the Id the pleasurable self which includes the animalistic behavior, and the Superego which is the civilized self, it is the real conscience that guides you to the norms of the society and generates thinking which allows you to decide and use your mind... it all depends on the ego which side to follow....

Ego is your feelings about yourself, intelligence, personality, looks, and all the other perceptions you have about yourself. People with really big egos think that they are the best at everything.

From what I figured out myself
Ego is your basic form and consists basicaly of emotions
like a wild horse.

Super-ego is your rationality that tries to steer your ego.

If they are not in balance you have a problem.

They are 2 things apart.

Try this: If you solve somehting rationaly, but not emotionaly.
It will come back.
Why? Your emotions arent satisfied.

Alot of people forget.

One of the divisions of consciousness. As you said, not very healthy.

There's a very good article on splits in consciousness from an eastern viewpoint here:

To me, ego is how you feel about yourself. Hope this helps. How can it be unhealthy? I don't agree with that at all.

It's your conscious mind. If you really want to get into this go to the source which is Sigmund Freud.
