If so, at what age did you find out and what made you aware? I have a 3 month old who doesnt respond to noise of any kind, a hearing test was done when she was born and they said she passed but I think I'd like another one.

My daughter is 12 now (almost 13) but when she was born and they done the hearing test, they said that she failed in her right ear. We took her to a specialist and they done a more sensitive test on her. They concluded that she had a profound hearing loss in her right ear. She does fine with it today. If you feel that she needs further testing, I would get it done. My daughter was 4 months old when she was tested the second time. I hope that things go well for you and your daughter!!

My neighbor has three deaf children. She didn't realize her first was deaf until he was about 2 years old and very delayed on his speech. The second one she figured out at a younger age, I believe at age 1. She knew at that point what signs to watch for. The third she just assumed was deaf from the get go because her first two were deaf (she was). For some reason her children had a genetic defect and none of them have good hearing.

This was in the days before the hospital-administered hearing test. Talk to an audiologist if you are concerned about your child's hearing.

My son was in the third grade before they realized he had a hearing problem. He also had allergies so every time he failed the hearing test they chalked it up to fluid in his ear. They finally detected it and it turned out to be surgically repaired. I would defiantly have a second exam and maybe a few more as the child grows. It might be something that is fixable.
