I guess I should be called then African German? Never heard that one before. But I don't mind either African American or black, I usually use black. I don't know what the big problem is for white people to call us black? We call you white (even though you are more light-pinkish) and we are not really black but different shades of brown, so what's the big issue?
White people, it is not a crime to say "Black" or "African American". Just don't call us "Colored" people, we are not in the 60s. That's all. I always have to laugh when white people look at me and ask me, is it ok if I say "African American" or black. Please, come on, do black people really get upset about that?

Not all black people, I would prefer the term black but if you called me African American I'm not going to make a scene or a big deal about it; why do some white people want to be called Caucasian? How many could actually trace their heritage or lineage back to the Caucas Mountains or even know anything about it like where it is or was and if it even still exists?

For some its the politically correct to say african american, instead of just black. But I personally don't care either way. I just don't like when some people say black for every dark skinned person they see. Because there are some people that are from the west indies and caribbean, that prefer to be known as where they are from. Because those islands all broke up a long time ago and some of those places have had fights between them, so they prefer to be known by their region instead of their skin color.

I don't think all do. Those hyphenated terms are all kind of BS. Some black people migrated to the US from Africa, some from the Caribbean, and hey, there are even Australian aboriginals with similar complexions. Us white folks are hardly exclusively European either, we live everywhere and there are generations of white people in eastern Russia (i.e. Siberia), which lies wholly in Asia...so I guess they're Asians, right?

Before approximately 1977 blacks had been brainwashed by and made ashamed to be called African by whites. After the movie Roots came out it became acceptable and a thing of pride to be associated with mother Africa.

I've always wondered this myself. I don't insist on being called a European American or a Causasian American. I'm fine with being called "white".
