Im a full time college student looking for a job. I have long blonde hair that goes halfway down my back, and thats all around. Now when I go out looking to pick up applications or see if places are hiring, Im always dressed nicely and I have my hair pulled back. Ive had it in on hair tie, and Ive had it in multiple hair ties. And when I go for an interview I look even more presentable.

So Im wondering if my hair, regardless of qualifications (say that I have them) is keeping me from getting a job?

Because if it is, I think that's a load of crap. (and thats nicely put)

No doubt. Your hair is a statement. It speaks as loudly as your own voice, and probably louder. If you think it is important for you to make that statement, realize that your actions have consequences, one of which is that a lot of us would conclude that you are very self-absorbed and therefore not a very good employment prospect. so... how much is your statement costing you?

No, its not your hair. Unless you are wearing it spiked and multi colored, you hair should not be affecting your application/interview process.. Just hang in there, he more interviews you go on the more practice, the better you become at answering the questions. Just be prepared, dress nicely, and be sure to have nice (not scuffed shoes). Smile and be friendly whenever you are in an office, even the secretaries!

It depends on what type of job you're looking for. Yes, it's descriminatory to an extent, but employers are allowed to make their own rules and you will find that there different regulations and dress codes for different employers. Perhaps you can cut your hair and then grow it back once you're hired in if it's ok with the employer.

Believe it or not, the hair could very well hamper your chances of landing a job. Unfortunate, but true. Good luck though!
