I use for nine plus years Avast free for home personal use. http://www.avast.com Never had one virus in nine plus years.

They will ask you for your email address so they can send you your free key that is good for one year. After the one year you just request a new key.

You will get two or three times per day automatic updates. Plus Avast has one of the very best background scanners that works in real time to catch any an all viruses before they even enter your system.

Their Corporate version is the very same, they just make corporate pay.

The free antivirus softwares that I hear are good, over and over again by users and by the experts are:

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

AVAST Home Edition

Currently I have Norton Antivirus 2005, which came free (for 6 months) when I downloaded it as part of the Google Pack. A great deal. You should definately have something protecting your computer right now. I'm always amazed at how fast and how easy junk gets onto your computer.

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:
