Been playing D&D for over 30 year myself. asked this question several times.

D&D is not about winning or lossing. it's about working together to acomplish a goal. so in that fact, if the group of adventures accually do get that goal ( defeat the dragon, rescue the prinsess, hold back the invation, or find the lost artifact ... ect) then they've won. and they can come back and play again and again.. or even keep trying till they do win more and more. it's all about goals and getting there. not like a typical vidio game , card game or board game where there is one clear champion at the end of a set period of time becouse they have the most.

say you wanted to get somewhere by a certin time. are you in a race , maybe .. or do you wanna get to work/school earlyer . did you do it ?? if you did then you did win in a way. did you pick up others going to the same place and get there in time ?? great now you did it as a team and you all won. D&D has no real " End Game " as it's been tearmed. just get together and finish a task.

one other way to look at it is like preforming. have you ever acted, sang , play an instrument ?? did you win ?? well i guese if it was a compatision you might have.. but if you just did that in front of folks.. then you just preformed for them .. you didn't realy win, but i bet you had alot of fun.. and hopefully those seeing you enjoyed what you did ( assuming you did a good job ). and in that sence you won, kinda like in D&D. getting together with freinds ( or even straingers ) and enjoying playing, w/out haveing to worry about someong getting the best score.

D&D is not about winners and lossers, it's about fun and enjoying your freinds

**Sorry about the spelling .. can't gett the spell checker to work **

Generally, the goal is to develop your character by fighting battles and winning treasures. Players try to increase their character abilities and earn magical items to fight and defeat more powerful opponents. There really is no end to speak of, other than the character getting killed.

So, who really wins in a long D&D game? I would say Pepsi, because they make both Doritos and Mountain Dew.
