If you take a home with no gutters and add gutters will you get even close to the amount you put into it as added value?

Depends on what you spend for the gutters. They are valued because they drain the water away from the house, and keep damage from occurring at the roof line. Where there are no gutters, the potential homeowner will see a lot more splashback on the house from the rain. Also if your area has acidic rain, it can eat away at the sidewalks or drives, which lowers the property value. My mother's house has this problem--a long groove all across the sidewalk and the driveway where the water has run off the roof for the past 24 years. Do point out that you have gutters when you sell, most people may not notice them, but would notice the problems above.

Probably not but they really are needed to prevent erosion and protect the side of your home.
