Breastfeed her as much as possible. The more you nurse, the more milk you'll have. You can't breastfeed her too much.

A 3 week old SHOULD NOT have water. If she is hungry.....feed her! Water fills her belly with "empty calories" so she doesn't have room for the milk she needs to grow. It can also be dangerous if she has too much and can cause an imbalance in her body called water intoxication.

A 3 week old is going through a growth spurt too, which means constantly being hungry! That's normal!

Are you sure she wants to eat again so soon or maybe she wants to do comfort sucking? If you put her to the breast, is she nursing and swallowing or "flutter sucking" when she wants to eat again so quickly? Have you tried a pacifier to see if she just wants to suck?

I was reading some of the previous answers and I guess my story is different from theirs. I do agree that you should try the pacifier first, but NURSERY or DRINKING water will NOT harm your baby if given in small amounts. Our pediatrician recommends it. 15 minutes after feeding? that might be a little soon though. Don't give the baby tap water or distilled water, both ten to have additives in them.
Talk to your doctor about increasing the amount of milk as well. My daughter would take breaks in her feedings also. Sometimes she would only eat 1/2 an ounce and want the rest shortly afterwards, other times it was the opposite!
Good luck with whatever you decide!

She won't become fat and it's especially important to breast feed her more so than giving her formula. Maybe it's just me that's paranoid, but you never know exactly what formulas *really* have in them, especially since they're made in a factory. Also, breast feeding sort of creates a bond between the mother and child (as if sharing a body for 9 months isn't enough, right? lol) But umm...I wouldn't suggest giving your baby water this early. There is bacteria in the water that she is not used to and only the nutrients from breast milk can help protect her from that bacteria. I suggest waiting until she is at least 6 or 7 months.

Not without your pediatrician's OK. I think 3 weeks old is too young to start giving water, even small amounts.
I had a similar problem, I thought she wanted to nurse again like 15-30 min. after I had fed her, but I figured out, with my mother-in-law's observation, that the baby only wanted something to suck on (the sucking is soothing for small babies)
We started giving her a pacifier, and feeding her every 3 hours. It totally worked.

You can give it a try.

Good luck!

Babies need to be "fat". They are growing at an enormous rate and it's very vital that they get the proper nutritional requirements during this time. If you do not feed your baby breast milk or formula when she is hungry, even though she just ate, you may unintentionally cause permenent negative impacts that will affect her throughout her life, or cause her to become ill.

For example, those starving children in Africa who survive will never reach what was their full physical or intellectual potential. They did not receive the proper nutrition at the right time and have forever lost the ability to become the strongest or smartest that their genes would have allowed.

At 8 weeks my toddler feed extra for a pair of days which became positioned right down to a growth spurt. i think of call for feeding is the final attitude at that age. to grant water quite than a feed could no longer be the final attitude because of the fact the toddler desires the feed to enhance. My toddler is obese however the way I see it, if he's becoming and coming up nicely then i'm doing my activity. I did inspite of the undeniable fact that supply water and mint tea to assist with wind from an early age. i think of water is nice see you later as this is to boot to the feeds no longer quite than the feeds.

No because then she will get full on water and not on breast or formula which she needs. Shes not gonna become fat I wouldnt worry how much shes eating unless it is to little but dont give her water until she starts eating baby food.

Formula fed babies are usually more plump then breast fed babies. Neither need water, especially at such a young age. It is usually around this time babies will hit a growth spurt, 3wks, 6wks, 9wks. Just feed her breast milk or formula, no need for water or cereal in her bottle-water or cereal at around 6months.
