If time is really a quantity ,then why is it called the 4th dimension?

Is nt time an entity which identiffies how fast a phenomena takes place/ How could it then be a dimension?

it is one way (always +)
whereas other dims are 2 way (like + and -)
i.e. distance=+50 km or -50 km
but time is always flowing in + direction

everything occurs by the duration of time
