Son, let me tell ya what,They are priming you for varsity. In sports coaches can get a players who are up and coming to follow one that already plays well. They want you in JV cause coaches always plan 3-4 yrs ahead with the players at school and you are next in line. Now what you want to do is show up before practice and practice free throws and other shots After practice run home ( I know your tired but a good jog home will increase endurance. Switch between short sprints and then jog and then sprint and jog. Also practice a little fake here and there to get better agility DO NOT QUIT AS THIS COULD BE THE DOOR TO THE FUTURE

I have played basketball since I was 5 years old, played division 1 for San Jose State and sustained numerous injuries during my college career which ended my playing days for good. I am now a coach, the thing that keeps me involved in the game is the passion and joy it brings me. From a player's perspective, continue playing if you enjoy it, it doesn't matter what team you are playing for, Varsity or JV, plus you will be improving your game while playing at that level. From a Coach's opinion, talk to the Varsity coach and ask him what you need to improve on in order to make the team next year and to make the Varsity team a better team. A coach loves when you show that you are serious and committed. Be sure to make it known in your question to him that you want to know what to do to make the TEAM better and let him know that you are committed to your ROLE on the team to make it a better team. Then take his advice and work on what he tells you. I stress to my players that it isn't practice that makes perfect, it is the CORRECT practice that makes perfect. during the off season find a one-on-one basketball coach that can help you on your game or try to join a league and read up on some basketball books and work on the techniques. If you lived in my area, San Jose, California, I could train you myself, I do one-on-one coaching, but I don't think that is the case. Hope my advice helps, and I won't tell you good luck, because it has nothing to do with luck, it has all to do with your will, work ethic, and perseverance. I will tell you to be strong. You can become a better player by playing on the street or at a gym than riding pine on the varsity team. I made my varsity team when I was in high school, but I did'nt get good until I played everyday at the park with all the homies. When I played against all the guys that started ahead of me in high school a few years later I had surpassed all of them. So just keep playing bro, a couple hours a day, you'll come back next year and make the team.

This is up to you. If you play for the love of the game, keep playing on the JV team. If you have a shot at making the varsity team at another school, go to their try-outs, if you think you are that good, and you can travel to that school.

Don't think there is only one way to skin a cat. Think outside the box. You might also play for a company team or neighbourhood or community team. Look at all your possibilities. Is there another sport you enjoy, which you'd like to develop? Martial arts, track, wrestling, cross country? Think about it. This may be an opportunity for you to learn something new.

No stick with JV. You'll make varsity next year. On JV you may get the role of captain. You may be a starter. You will get a lot more play time.

If you really enjoy playing basketball, does it really matter if you're JV or Varsity? Play JV this year and tryout again next year, your Senior year. Practice a lot and train during the summer to up your chances. Good luck!

If you love playing the game then don't quit. Of course it is disapointing to not be on varsity but you still have a chance to enjoy the game you love. Show the coaches and staff that you are willing to do what they ask and put in extra practive to learn as much as possible. They will recognize that and I am sure you will be rewarded...

F.Y.I. Did you know that Michael Jordan did not make the varsity team his first try in high school?

I think that if you really love the game of basketball, then it shouldn't matter to you if you're on JV or Varsity. Just be thankful that you have the oppurtunity to play!
