it was broadcasted on the news, that black people in the audience were heckling him, and he snapped, at first he was making light black jokes, but he wound up saying things like 50 years ago you ******* would have been hanging from trees with forks up your asses for talking to me like that...it was really bad, but apparently hes apologizing now...said he was drunk

After having seen the clip for the first time I think that Michael Richards shot himself in the foot big time! I do not know if his career will ever survive a mistake like that...
I know it may seem to be a double standard with some comedians but there is a line that you do not cross and he crossed it, went back and crossed it again multiple times! Besides being racist it was insulting and unfunny...He did it to himself and has no one to blame but himself!

I am a person of the 'Pale Persuasion', and I was aghast at that tirade. I truly hope he really didn't mean those nasty things he said. I cannot believe he, or anyone else, thought any of it was funny, in any way other than 'funny-weird'. I DO think it would be the kindest thing for everyone to just 'Let it be'. We don't need anyone, anywhere, of any persuasion, to increase the hatred in this world. There isn't anything to be gained by fanning the embers of racism, and much to be lost by adding gasoline to a raging fire of hate. He sabotaged his own career. Do the right thing, let him do his penance in private. He will have a very long time to think it over. And each of us, of any color, religion, or origin, must show more respect to each other.

Yes, he retorted with the N word multiple times after being told to sit his "cracker *** down". I don't understand why everyone is pointing the finger at this guy when he didn't even start it! But that's the way is ALWAYS seems to go...........people antagonize others and when they blow up, they point the finger like they can't believe their actions! It makes me ill and I, for one, am sick and tired of being the scapegoat!

It's a double standard! The fact that rappers say the "N" word (No I don't use it!!) all the time!! And you hear all these little hip hop clowns refer to themselves as it again every other word...I have no problem with the fact that he snapped and called them something they probably refered to themselves as all day long anyway....It was the comment that precipitated it

"If it was 50 years ago you'd be hanging upside down with a fork in your a*s" That blew my mind...

Something like that just doesn't roll off your tongue unless you've thought about it before..That was unbelievably offensive and crossed every line there was to cross in my mind!! The dudes career has been dead for years. So I can't even say he buried himself with that comment...But he sure let people know where his mind lies..He's racist no if's ands or buts about it.

He shouted in a very angry voice, "N-i-g-g-e-r! N-i-g-g-e-r! Twenty years ago, we would have had you upside down with a fork up your a-s-s!"

He wasn't just trying to make a bad joke. He had lost his composure. It is obvious by listening to this he had a racist attitude about blacks.

It remains to be seen if he will change his views. Simply saying "I'm sorry" doesn't really cut it. He will have to show by some kind of community service or charity that he has had a real change of heart.

He called hecklers the 'n word' a few times.

Sounds more like Chris Rock than Kramer to me.

He called them the n word and also said had it been 50 years ago, they would be hanging from a tree with a fork up their ***.

Wow, what an asshole... I've called my friends ****** or ********, but I would never use it to make them feel any less of a person... That's below the belt... That's racist.

And yes, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and "hardcore rappers" use the N-word plenty of times in their skits, but they don't use it to degrade the person next to them. They don't say "YOU F***IN' ******* GET OUT!!!"

He said N word seven or eight times. These guys who were heckling him were black.. then he said something like, "Fifty years ago you would have been lynched."

I am not sure if what he said was racist or just stoopid. I think he was mouthing off. The guys totally said they weren't even trying to heckle him... but they totally could ahve been.

I personally forgave him, everyone makes mistakes they know they shouldn't have made.
