I see that most people didn't read your question before answering it. You are talking about illegal immigrants, not Europea citizens who are allowed to work in the UK. I don't think it's in the hands of the public to send them home like I saw someone mention in a nother discussion but I think they should call the authorities and report illegal immigrants. Russians are now fining companies that hire illegal immigrants very high amounts, maybe thats something the UK should take up.
Now for those who were talking about legal immigrants:
Iceland is facing similar problems as the UK with workers from the EU countries flooding the work market. We need some of them for some jobs but they are unfortunately becoming a big problem. With the workers we get a lot of people who aren't fit to work, their families and children. They all need health care, housing, schools etc and even though they pay taxes, they are usually on minimum wage (after the unions finally managed to stop the slavery they were in through the job agencies in Poland).
Icelanders are talkin about similar precautions as the UK when the new countries join the EU. Even though Iceland is not in the EU we are in the EEA and have agreements with the EU regarding free movement and jobs. It stirred a lot of trouble when they mentioned putting a stop to those people flocking over here looking for work but I'm hoping they can put a limit to it.
It's ok to get people for jobs that we have for them but it's not fair to expect that they can move to a new country and expect all the benefits the citizens receive if the can't get a job.
This year we are having a lot of problems with people from Poland who have been here for months looking for work but they can't get any. According to the UN we are obligated to provide education for their children and they need a place to live. Those people are used to living in poverty so to them, they are living in luxury on the benefits they get from the Red Cross and other charities.
Could I go to Bulgaria next year with my kids and send him to school there and get free housing and money to pay for my food? I doubt it.

Firstly we already try and prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country - as does nearly every other country in the world; however no system has yet been designed that is foolproof, and illegal immigrants will always get through whatever system is designed. This is a historical fact.
If we shut our borders, what happens to the tourism industry on which so many people rely? How do we know that the person who appears to have a genuine tourist visa is not an illegal immigrant?
As for sending them home; that is precisely what the Government is trying to do, but because (thankfully) of international treaties of which we are signatories there are some countries we cannot send people back to; would you seriously argue sending someone back to a country where they are certain to be killed because of their religious or political belief?

If that happened the WHOLE world would shut down the cities would stop being built. The whole world is turning because of hard workers that is bein done by immigrants that "citizens" are too lazy to do. Everything from construction all the way to city jobs. Everyone knows that immigrants are hired everyday for jobs that "citizens" turn down. I am a citizen but reqonize that there are hard working people out there just trying to make it. And I pay tax too I rather pay my tax dollars for immigrants to appreciate and make an honest living. Then to have someone else that complains and half *** a job.

We don't do it because that is what Britain is all about. We did it before: we allowed blacks to come in our country and clean our toilets, but as soon as they wanted some respect we got all huffy, same with the asians. Happy when they run our corner shops from 5 in the morning until 1 at night, but if they start wanting jobs with more power- we don't like it. And now, we want cheap labour and allow european immigrants in, but we're starting to get cheesed off.
Britian has always in the history of our country, been a multi-nationality country. All of us are essentially mongrels and perhaps we should be proud of it?
I just think that there should be more policing of who they allow to move into this country rather than just letting all and sundry flood in. It should be more difficult to move in here. I also think that we shouldn't just dish out benefits and five bed houses to people who fancy living in UK and ignoring those who were born here that need help, and also medical care shouldn't be free immediately aswell, the waiting lists are long enough without all that.
I also don't think the "rightys" should be bashing you as a "left"| just because you said ILLEGAL immigrants shouldn't be allowed. ILLEGAL as in they shouldn't be here, and they're most likely illegal because they wouldn't be allowed in for a reason otherwise. You're being attacked purely because you don't agree with someone that is against the law anyway being abused- which makes no sense whatsoever. It's like you arguing, why should rapists and paedeophiles be released to just go and do it again, and those righties saying it's the paedeophiles right.
People need to get their head out of their own ***. When our country gets bombed, or your sister gets raped, or some old ladies purse gets nicked- all by illegal immigrants, then they'll start whinging. But, while they're doing cheap labour and you're getting cheaper iPods- then our righties will be happy. Get a back bone and have a bloody opinion for crying out loud.
My two pence

Shut our borders? The only people that come through the actual border crossing are Americans coming back from vacation. I guess when you say "shut" you mean put a fence up. I agree with a fence.
Getting all the illegals out is like trying to get all the ants out of an ant hill. You can get a couple, but the rest of the ants just go deeper in the ground and hide.
EDIT:
How did everyone else know you where talking about UK? I thought you mean the USA. I think I'm in Yahoo Answers UK lol ... oops.

And just how would you get out for your cheap holiday overseas?
Immigration gives us the life-blood we need to make our countries entrprenurial again. Those who are prepared to risk everything and try their hand in a new, and difficult, country are the brightest and the best.
Keep the borders open.
I bet if you trace your family tree just one generation back you'll find plenty of evidence that not all were born here.
Immigration works for the economy, the arts and, really importantly, service industries.

It is so sad to see these people escaping from a country that only offers them poverty and corruption and instead of gratitude to our country and our flag, all we are getting are insults and social problems. But it is well expected from people that have it in their nature because a culture that produces uneducated and poor knows nothing about respect. When a human's basic needs aren't being accomplished because the lack of sensitivity towards them by their government, they too lack the human qualities that make a successful society. Sorry, I used the plural form that generalizes. I make the correction, some not all.

Hi, Nothing is wrong with closing our borders to illegals. The laws are there now to prohibit illegals from entering the US. The problem is the INS is either low staffed or they don't care, because they don't enforce the immigration laws we have in place right now.

to begin with whats so wrong..
1. World News Report: the land of immigrants and freedom of religion has officially closed its doors.
2.graffiti on the statue to cover it?
A line from a poem, “The New Colossus,” by the nineteenth-century American poet Emma Lazarus. “The New Colossus,” describing the Statue of Liberty, appears on a plaque at the base of the statue. It ends with the statue herself speaking: 1
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
