I am due in January and we are naming our daughter Kaylie Ann and I noticed that there are a few other references on here to Kaylie, so since you're looking for a unique name, I guess that one would be out. I saw the name "Nyla" in one baby name book and I fell in love with it, but my husband didn't like it as much. I'd never heard it before. I also like the name "Lydia", it's a name that others have but it is not very common. Not sure if you care for either of those.

I love the name Stella for a girl. It reminds me of someone powerful, artistic, and somewhat of a femme fatale.
For boys, I like the name Jackson. It reminds me of cool, laid-back Jackson Browne. It's powerful but not too unusual. The abbreviation Jack is also a cool, spunky name.
I agree with a comment I saw above mine that said that unusual names are somewhat over-rated. Granted, you don't want you child to have the same name as everyone in their class but overly ethnic or "flowery hippie names" can hurt them in the job market as they get older. Something different without being strange is a good way to go.

I think 'unique' baby names are over rated.
I think you should find a compromise between a traditional name and an uncommon name and not fall in with trends.
I like Josephine or Colette for a girl
and Joel or Carl for a boy.

I have always loved the name MaKenna for a girl...I never got the chance to use it...3 boys and I am not figuring the 4th time is a charm!!
When I had my 3rd son, at the time Tristan wasn't popular. Now it is.
