This has been answered verified and answered. The Army War College, Jane's and the Think Tanks all feel China is unbeatable. They were kicking our butts in 1954 and laughed at our threat to use the bomb. If we used enough bombs to influence the war the world would be unlivable due to atomic poisoning. If you aren't aware even with everything in our arsenal in Viet Nam the NVA over ran base after base while we pounded them with everything. No matter how many weapons one has human wave attacks will win out. Scary, huh?
God Bless You and The Southern People.

Alex is right. Technology, not land troops win a war. A lot of Chinese technology is from Mao's time in the 1960s, they were built during the Sino-Chinese war in 1962. Even when Kennedy indicated a hint of support for India, the Chinese withdrew. They have only started being serious militarily in the last 5 years. They don't even have an aircraft carrier, how will they defend themselves against 11 mini-cities carried tens of thousands of soldiers with technology which can dismantle them? Nukes are pretty much off the table if we get the hypersonic planes in, but even then, China knows it will come off 2nd best in a nuclear confrontation. We have the technology to win any war, remember we spend 692 billion a year on our military so it shouldn't be a surprise if we defeat China, in fact it should be expected, since we spend more than every other country in the world combined on war! Of course, any war is horrible, and this one will be WW3. Millions will die, the allies will come in, North Korea will join and who knows, if India and Russia takes sides it can get very nasty. But if its a one-to-one confrontation, we have the technology to dismantle Chinese defenses and when we get troops on China, we have the navy and air force to back then up, so the Chinese troops will pretty much get slaughtered. Our tanks and land weapons are also far superior, and our soldiers are generally much better trained. We should note that China are increasingly military funding fast. If this type of war was to happen in 20 years, China would have the technology and the numbers. We would be annihilated . However, God willing, a war like this never happens!

The US could nuke China and it would be over in a half-hour. Using "conventional" weapons, American firepower would make some really big bites--but as we learned in North Korea, the massive population of China can call for an enormous number of bites to be made.
China has weapons delivery problems. The "long march" to settle scores with their previous (pre-communist) allies is just too difficult. However, and in the fuss with Taiwan they know that their "ace in the hole" is what is sometimes called the 'first punch' deterrant. The Chinese know that the US has no tolerance for blood--our own blood. All they have to do is concentrate efforts on a major ship, like an aircraft carrier, and suddenly we will have no stomach for further fights. China is more than able (barring a severe nuclear strike) to hold out longer than we have patience for.
Besides, neither side will win in any all-out war. The death and devastation would be more severe than anything that either side could honestly crow about. In a full war, the casualties could easily amount to more than the whole populations of several dozen countries on the globe.

This is a delightful and intriguing question. The replies evidence the full spectrum of problems with our American education systems and values.
First, China has already won the "war". You youngsters think wars are about guns, missiles, aircraft, and bombs. Wrong....across the board.
At the heart of modern day war is economic superiority; not land, not conquest of people, not control of governmenta. Wars are winning and control economies, consumers, and money.
China has controls on a global level, because of its emerging market size, virtually all markets. Remember the Golden Rule: Whomever has the gold, makes the rules...and China has all of the gold at this time and for the next 100+ years.
China's cultural base is pure and controlled by the military. Heard anything about illegal aliens in China lately? No, and you never will.
China has appropriated our American technology, American manufacturing, and American intellectual properties without being forced to compensate our country.
The key reason why China has won is that they do not or require other countries resources to be successful. With 3/5 ths of the world's population within their control, they don't need anything from the rest of world now that they have our technologies.
This cannot be said of the US which is highly dependent oil producing countries, low cost goods from china, consumer electronics, etc. from the rest of the world.
Yes, the war is already over.

I see a lot of answers here and some touting findings of war colleges and simulations, but none really coming close to the truth. Nuclear weapons; we so out strip the Chinese here that it would not even be a contest. Their nuclear weapons are for defensive and retaliatory purposes, anyway. They are extremely limited there. We would not have to " destroy the world " to really give them a terrific blow, in a nuclear fashion. Nuclear weapons aside; we have been in combat with waves of Chinese troops and have overcome them. Our army ranks so far superior to their army in combat readiness that it is no match. You all seem to forget how the Viet Namese embarrassed China in that border dispute they had, after the Viet Nam war. The only problem that anyone has had with China, is their enormous size, thus making them hard to conquer and hold. The Japanese had trouble with this, but China was supported then. A problem, but not insurmountable, in at least beating them. You would not need to hold them to be declared victor.

Interesting question, considering China controls all of the major seaports in the USA, and has been lending the USA money to keep the 'economy' of the USA afloat....
I do not support any kind of war nor do I take any sides or support either faction--having said that, from a quick glance at the stats, the USA should be VERY, VERY nice to China.

It depends on where the war was fought! I doubt that China could successfully invade the US. Believe me, if they could invade Taiwan they would have done so in the 50s!
On the flip side, the US could never conquer China. Remember that line from The Princess Bride. "...never get involved in a land war in Asia!"

Angelthe5th is right. China has already won; all they have to do is a mop-up. Remember that the US is a paper tiger, and has not won a war since 1945.

If it was a nuclear war, neither would win. Both countries would be devastated, moreso China since they have less nukes.
