Looks like only one other person gave you some good advice.

Here's a simple paint that I use.

PPG Base Coat Clear Coat.

1.Prep work, sand tank w/400 wet dry paper
2.Wipe tank with Alcohol in (one) direction.
3.Go to wal mart & buy Sandable primer in a can, it's simple & works. Cheap.
4.Resand that tank, rinse w/water & dry.
5.Make sure you have a filter on the gun, traps moisture.
6.Set gun at 65 psi at the gun.
7.Spray a tac coat and let dry for 11 mins.
8.Spray a base coat covering, no need to make it shine, just cover well. Let it dry 21 mins. set a timer.
9.Spray next coat same way, let dry 21 mins.
10.Spray final color coat, let dry 21 mins or more.
11.Mix Clear Coat 2-1
12.Spray 65 psi, This is very important, spray a 1st tac coat, let stand for 21 mins, spray next coat covering well and making it shine, let stand 21 mins, then spray the final coat same way, if you want a pearl look then add it on this final coat to the gun.

If you have paint exp. then you might want to use House of Kolor Paints, but they are very expensive to buy, but do offer more ways to paint.

To spray correctly you will need to go to an auto shop that sells paint. They most likey will not sell to you unless you have an approved vapor mask.
I repainted a TR650, two fenders and a tank with a quart and had left overs. I applied two coats.
I also had 2 drip marks that I knew existed and it bugged me as long as I owned the bike. Only one drip mark was visible to the public if they looked hard, still I almost wish I had handed over the stuff to be painted. Keeping the work area dust free for hours to allow the paint to dry is very hard.

SprayMax 2K sparkling Coat is an wonderful product, I surely have used it on a half dozen diverse initiatives with staggering consequences on diverse base paints and hues. i'm no professional painter, inspite of the undeniable fact that it style of feels that the colour coat is purely that - whilst totally cured and scuffed the 2K sparkling bonds superbly and produces a crystal sparkling end. purely finished a matte blacked out R6 and had particular ordered some matte sparkling in the 2K cans, worked great, seems great. I initiate with an extremely mild overcoat, supply it a minute, then flow in for the 1st end coat, employing sufficient to offer a gloss without inflicting runs. The 2K cans produce a advantageous extensive development and the textile is going on quickly with little attempt. The adjustable information are a advantageous touch too. First time I used it the consequence gave the impact of glass! i became offered, and many times propose this product.

If you are going to spray your own tanks, then don't expect a great result, only an o.k. result. Professionals generally have their own "tricks" of the trade to make bikes sparkle with depth and look like they have 20 coats of clear. If you're still doing it yourself, then use Dupont color 4 coats and clear it with 5 to 6 light coats. Then sand & buff. Good luck.

This depends on the type of paint job you want.
Flashy or functional?
Whether you have a compressor and sprayer; or are simply going to spray can it ?

If you want to see several good quality spraycan paint jobs, and learn the way they did it; there are several in the forums at http://www.thegsresources.com/

It would be better for you to take it to a paint shop. You have already told me you don't know what you are doing.Do you own an air compressor with a dryer or a spray gun be cheaper to take to a pro.

Ask the dealer you bought it from. Or check motorcycle websites.
