Such a personal choice!!
I was very lucky and I was able to go Natural...I took the Bradley Method of natural child birth and it was GREAT!! They advocate, healthy mom, healthy baby. They are NOT anti-drug but pro-information. I knew exactly what was going to be going on with my body during the three stages of labor. I was able to be informed and make informed decisions.
There was pain, but I did not find it unbearable.
Of course, while I was pregnant, I kept saying I was going to "try" to go natural, and if I felt I needed help, I'd get it.
I didn't need it. I labored at home until 20 minutes before my son was born! There wasn't even time to put in an IV!!
It was so AWESOME, I'd do natural again in a heartbeat!
Now...this is a personal choice...you do what you feel is going to be best for you and baby.

I've had 2 drug free births (Except for gas and air!) and my first child took 5 days to come out! It is the most painful thing that anyone ever goes through but it's worth it. I see it as a form of elitism! Not many women do it pain free nowadays and if you do you should be very proud of yourself. I concentrated on my breathing and with gas and air it helped. Going into water is supposed to be relaxing. I found walking when having a contraction to help allot - the more you move the better you feel. Also believe it or not making noise is an effective natural painkiller! If you feel you can't cope and have drugs don't feel as though you've let yourself down. You must do whatever you must to cope. It might be a shock to you just how painful it is. All that matters is that you and the baby are O.K. Good Luck Hun xx.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and just finished up my childbirth education class. From what I have learned I feel that going natural would be best for mom and baby if it is possible, but it is absolutely your choice. All women have different pain tolerances and you shouldn't feel bad if you do decide to use medication. If you are interested in going natural there are a lot of neat pain relief techniques available. Ones that we went over in class that I am planning to use are the birthing ball, massage, relaxation tapes, changing labor positions, and hot and cold packs. Also what many women do not realize is that you can also receive what is called a local anesthetic which will numb the vaginal and anal area for the actually delievery. This however does not help with the pain of contractions. But if you can stand the contractions, but are worried about the pain when the baby comes out, this might be another option for you rather than having an epidural. Good luck with your decision! I know it's a tough one!

I had an anesthesia class today where they told us about the pain medication you can get. Ever since I got pregnant I have been wanting to go natural, however I do not have an idea of what labor pain is because this is my first pregnancy. Women say that the pain is really bad and I will be screaming for DRUGS! I know myself and I know that I can bare pain very well, so I am going to keep my mind open to anything. They told us that the kind of meds you can get are optional, you can get an IV however if you do your baby will be born not very conscious, he will be born kind of sedated, if you take the epidural, they told us the meds that go through it are in very low doses and it what goes in your blood stream is not much at all so baby will be born just fine. The kind of drug that you do not have a choice to take is a stronger epidural and that one is given when you have a C-section. Sometimes in an emergency case you won't have a choice, so it would be good if you could get a class in your clinic about what's out there.
Set your mind on doing whatever you want but know your choices and once you go into labor let your body tell you what you can take BUT always keep in mind that it is NOT about you anymore it is about your baby. Good luck!

The epidural is a narcotic cocktail. Traces of cocaine and other drugs are found in the baby's blood only 3 minutes after birth. There are more potential negatives to getting the drugs than there are positives. Everyone I know that has had a natural childbirth has a "gifted" child. Makes you wonder...
I had 2 9 pound babies naturally. It was worth every bit of pain, and the pain only lasted 30 minutes to 1 hour before I became a mom. Medication sometimes causes side effects - high blood pressure, low blood pressure, low oxygen, fetal distress, numbness, and the need for vaccuum or forceps.
It's a personal choice, but do your research - if you avoided drugs during the pregnancy, avoiding drugs during delivery may not be such a bad choice. Good luck!

I had an epidural with all three of my kids. With the middle child, the epidural "fizzled out" just when I was fully dialated and effaced. I felt EVERYTHING with this boy and he was a BIG baby (10lbs 5 oz and 23 in long). But I have to say that I think it was better in the long run that I did feel it. I can't explain why. It's really a personal choice. Something that you should research and get as much info on as you can, so that you can make your own informed decision. Good luck!!

I take it your talking about an epidural?
I had one when i was in labour with my twins, both were head down, pushed for 2.5hours but my boy was face up towards my belly so I had to have an emergency c-section, as my heartrate went haywire and a massive migrane kicked in.
Luckily I'd had the epidural so i was able to stay awake.
I chose to shot at the time because labor sucks and it's out of our control, I needed it to bring me sanity. I still felt everything but no pain, could move around etc so it was great for me.
You may take natural birthing in your stride so just see what happens when it comes.
Good luck & Congrats!

Don't know what a med shot is. Natural child birth is by far the best for baby. I've done it 2 of 2 times, no meds. Wasn't bad at all. I would do it again too.
