I was told they would clog them up and they were not good for them.

Fabric softener sheets leave a sticky film all over the inside of the dryer. It builds up on the lint filter, in the lint filter duct, on the motor, in the vent hose and everywhere else. The film attracts the lint and causes it to build up mainly in all areas of air flow and eventually restricts air flow through the dryer and through the vent to the outside. When this happens the heating element will over heat, melt thermal fuses and cause the heating element itself to burn out.

The manufacturers of these "dryer sheets" recommend that you use a new sheet for every load but many people have found that a single sheet can effectively do two or three loads and in doing that save money on the sheets and lessen the effect of the buildup in the dryer.

When you use these sheets you should clean your lint filter with warm water and dish soap once a month and brush out the filter duct as well. You should clean the venting out twice a year to remove the lint buildup and with it some of the sticky buildup.

If you keep the air flowing freely through the dryer and venting it will keep drying the clothes fast and efficiently and greatly reduce the need for repairs.

I've heard that the dryer sheets will cause a film over the lint screen- If you want to check- try running water over the screen and see- Every once in a while I wash my screen with soapy water. This film can ruin the heating element...

Here are a few more interesting insights regarding the typical chemical dryer sheets that you won't find their manufacturers boldly advertising on the pretty boxes:

Common dryer sheets greatly reduce the flame retardency of children's clothing

They create toxic fumes when released with heat

Warranties on some new dryer models can be negated because of their use

Their inert ingredients can cause cancer, liver disease,
Alzheimer's, and many other chronic disorders

Common dryer sheets can cause allergic reactions on your skin

They create a clogging residue on your lint screen that can cause the heating element to burn out

Sortner sheets will not harn your dryer as long as you have the lint screen in place. WARNING; dryer sheets put a layer of chemical on your clothes - it is EXTREMELY FLAMABLE-- liquid softner that you put in the wash is much safer

no, they are fine to use. i don't see how they could clog up a dryer. dryers don't have any openings that they could get into. does your machine not have a lint screen?
