Well guys and girls, i consider ice hockey to be the easier sport, because although you get smashed around abit, you glide around all day - way too easy. Field hockey on the other hand, you dont stop running. The fitness of these athletes is amazing ans the training they do is almost insane.

Hey thanks for the extra info guys, I have skated before, but not alot - Australia, climate issue. AND no, i dont play with barbies and im not a girl or queer (no offence to anyone who is) Field hockey is a rough sport, just like ice, but different in a cool way. Before you ice hockey players knock it you should play it! Without having pre-disposed ideas about it too!

It also depends on where in the world you are wheither it is refered to ice hockey or field hockey. In Canada and the US as well as the Nordic countries like Sweden, Finland etc... the ice form of the sport is the more popular form practiced so it is known as hockey. In Britain and in most of the rest of the Commonwealth countries field hockey is more popular so that sport is referred to as hockey by most people. It's all what people are used to - it's the same way with football/soccer.

Ice hockey is faster, more physical. They can be up and down the ice in a few seconds flat.

I really can't explain it any better than that. Hearing that goal horn, or the sound of skates on the ice, or someone slamming into the boards makes me soo happy :) It's just the whole atmosphere of the game, the constant energy.

I think there's just something in the Canadian gene pool that attracts us to the sport. I am in LOVE with the sport.. I like football and baseball too, but NOTHING comes close to my excitement for hockey!

The franchise national league said in an early interview in
the 30s they wanted to be called hockey. It really is a topic
of fanclub support around campuses in hockey weather zones.
In Boston it is called hahhkey. In Maryland Hackey. Now in
Olympix it is hockey for field hockey, women over 6 foot 3
can call it whatever they want.

Field hockey is considered a female sport by many. It is hard to find guys playing field hockey, it is not our type of sport. And ice hockey is better, and more popular because it is a more exciting, faster paced game, and it has been popular for a very long time since it was invented and its fan base just keeps growing and growing.

Simple, Ice Hockey has the NHL an established Pro League. Now I'm not trying to sound rude so don't take this wrong BUT does Field Hockey HAVE a Pro League? If they do it isn't established.

What are you on.You make hockey sound like gay figure skating.I invite you on the pond this winter for a "friendly" game of pond hockey. After 5 minutes on the ice you'll be screaming to go back to playing field hockey with the other girls.Did you play with Barbies as a boy? Could explain your warped views.

Ice Hockey was created first. in the 1860's, two kids used plain stick to shoot a frosen cow pie between rocks, a man walked by and joined in and soon the whole town was playing. Then in the 1880's, a few kids were bored and started playing hockey in the nearby feild, thus the term "feild hockey."

Any fool can run around with a stick.

Learn how to skate, play some organized hockey and then talk about it.

OK...if field hockey is so much more physical and tiring, then why do hockey shifts last around 30-45 seconds?....
