My friend had 4D done at her doctors office and her son is fine. (He is now 3) Then, for a birthday present, my husband bought me a 4D ultrasound package that included two scans. One at 26 weeks, one at 32 weeks. They are AMAZING!!!! My baby is very healthy and active and developing right on the mark! They are not any more harmful than a regular 2D ultrasound would be and when I was pregnant with my first child, I was exposed to Fifths Disease and had to have an ultrasound once a week for six weeks, olus the regular scans and we ended up with a total of 9 scans in 9 months....she is now 12 years old and perfectly healthy, active and quite intelligent! People freak out about everything! It seems these days that everything causes cancer....or some kind of illness. I wouldn't worry so much. The 4D ultrasound is an awesome keepsake...I am so glad that we did it! I have a website set up with the pics of our daughter..if you'd like to see them, e mail me and I will send you the link!
Good luck and Congrats!

Medical organizations say ultrasounds are safe but should always be preformed at the lowest setting necessary and for the shortest amount of time possible only when medically necessary.

There isn't much evidence that it is dangerous but there isn't much that it is safe either. There is evidence that the more scans a baby has the lower their birth weight will be.

Now if you are talking about the 4D scans run for entertainment by non-medical technicians those are more dangerous. Would you let some nut at the mall x-ray you over and over -NO! Are x-rays dangerous not really BUT there is a limit on how many you are supposed to get during the year.

December 19, 2003 · Ultrasounds have long been used to check on the health of growing babies in the womb. But now, expectant parents are turning to the technology for a very different purpose: early baby photos. As NPR's Debbie Elliott reports, commercial businesses are using advanced ultrasound technology to offer parents startlingly clear, 4-D images of their unborn children.

One such firm is Potomac, Maryland-based Baby Insight, which opened in April. The company offers parents-to-be 3-D still images of their baby, as well as a live-action, 4-D video of life in the womb. Baby Insight owner Lori Evans says parents are most amazed by how clear their babies' facial features and gestures appear.

Parents can choose from several picture packages, similar to the way in which they'll later select school photos. Many use the images for holiday cards, or in announcement cards sent to friends and family.

Although such services are popular, the Food and Drug Administration says they represent a misuse of ultrasound technology, which is approved for diagnostic medical purposes. Dr. Marsden Wagner, a perinatal epidemiologist and former director of Maternal and Child Health at the World Health Organization, notes that there have been no long-term studies of children exposed to ultrasound. He says several small studies indicate a possible link between ultrasound exposure and neurological problems.

Baby Insight co-owner Matt Evans says his company would stop immediately if research ever shows that ultrasounds are dangerous

I got a 3-D Ultrasound done and they said that it was OK. But to let you know the 3-D and the 4-D are the same thing the people that invented the 3-D sold their technology to the people who have the 4-D ultrasound they just needed to give it a different name. If you want you can IM me and I will show you the pictures of my baby maybe that will ease your mind.

Having a ultrasound done in a hospital with proper procedure isnt dangerous for your baby but some places that are not doctor offices or hospitals have ultrasound equipment and those are not necessarily safe as there are no standards for that. There are ultrasound places in the malls now NOT SAFE.

I had 1 done when my bubs were 20 weeks - it was brilliant!

I'd liked to have got another one but never acted upon it. I honestly don't think it would be dangerous to get 1 done..

Plus when I was pregnant with the twins towards the end of my pregnancy I was having an ultrasound every 2 weeks so they knew exactly wheat was goin on with the bubs growth wise and making sure everything was doing as it should.

Get one done, you'll be glad you did.

With my final being pregnant my daughter became somewhat smaller than the dr. concept she ought to be, so I had to flow to the dr. three times a week. On 2 on the days i might do ultrasounds, and on the different day i might do a rigidity attempt. i might ask the dr. why he needs to work out you lots, it may desire to be a area of his prepare, or he could think of that there is a issue, the two way you could desire to recognize.

My doctor told me a few months ago that they havent been able to find significant proof that ultrasounds are harmful so until they have significant proof they try to do them sparingly just in case, but there has been a study recently that it causes hearing problems, I'll look for the article on the net and e-mail it if I find it.

Ultraounds (even 4d) use sound waves, not radiation. They are perfectly safe.

Don't you think that if they were dangerous they wouldn't be used every second of every day all over the world, for looking at babies?
