i have dry skin but also acne since i'm still a teenager. of course i'm self-concious and try to use makeup, but i can't find anything that isn't like a huge cakey layer. i also wash my face every night and use prescribed face lotion but my skin still looks awful. any advice?

don't wash your face to death--it'll just make everything worse. ALWAYS apply products with a q-tip...a different end, then the next q-tip, etc, etc. on each --whatever--pimple, whitehead, cluster of bumps...so you won't spread anything.you prob also have sensitive skin. Use toner in the am and pm. i use it whanever my face is sweaty, also. carry it in my bag. explore mario badescu online--fill out the form with your info and they will tell what's best for you. AT the BOTTOM, they will ask if you want SAMPLES. Don't miss that part--some of my friends did.

i can recommend a couple of things i use that really do work, but you may just have to keep exploring.

Bascia (their website...easier to use sephora sometimes): Willowbark breakout treatment.

Mario Badescu: Glycolic Gel; Special Cucumber Lotion (it's a deep-cleaning toner), Botanical facial Gel; orange tonic mask, drying cream, drying lotion, drying mask, other great masks---they have TONS of helpful products for you! There's a small acne section, which is good, but the catalog--you can send for it--is FULL of good stuff for you. Only at Badescu. Only Bendel sells it, outside of the Badescu Spa.

Oh, also, Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick.

DO NOT EVER USE MOISTURIZER, NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY TELLS YOU!!!!!!!!!

I've read the answers, and a lot of it is nonsense. I was a beauty editor. noncomedogenic--or however you spell it means it WON'T CAUSE ALLERGIES--HOPEFULLY. But for YOU, it WILL make yourself worse. You need good stuff with good products in them. that does NOT mean expensive. use anybodies eye makeup that doesn't irritate your eyes. some people recommend usingdry on dry or wet/shiny, creamy...put matte powder--NEVER use foundation--EVER--I mean it! And, you won't need it. once you get your skin where you want it.

Use matte translucent powder on your eyes if your makeup won't stay...then use powder shadows, pencils, whatever you want...blush--avoid any irritated places--mascara, and DON"T put ANYTHING ELSE on your face except for remedeys. 1. Cleanse, 2. Tone, 3. Moisturize is NOT for YOU! It's just a common plan that's too old and out of date. As I said, NEVER moisturize, no matter who tells you!!!!! After you put on your makeup and any face product(s). use disposable--of course--cottonballs so you don't spread anything elsewhere.
Good luck!

Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water. This should leave your face oil free without aggravating the acne. To get rid off blackheads you can use a half cups of hot water and half a tablespoon of boric powder. Also use an oatmeal or almond mask throughly to cleanse your face. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with enough rose water to make a soft paste that spreads easily on the skin. Rub it on your skin with your fingertips, paying special attention the problem areas. Leave to dry for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. This is very good in getting rid of blackheads. As someone said up here honey is a great remedy for skin blemishes and acne because the honey kills bacteria. Make a paste by mixing 3 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. Repeat for two weeks, pimples will disappear forever.!

I have adult acne and to be honest it really sucks. I have found that Natures Cure works the best. It is chewable pills that you take for 2 months twice a day. Its around $9.95 so it is cheaper then Proactive. Acne is hormonal and it seems to help in that department. Any makeup would be fine with what ever skin color you are...try concealer and little blush until the blemishes clear, there are some really light foundations now, feel like you have nothing on your face. good luck :)

yeah i agree loreal true colour is really nice, not too heavy but good coverage. you could also try mac studio fix fluid, if you go to a mac shop or counter they will help you pick out the right colour. oh also i'd really recommend putting on your foundation with a proper foundation brush. again mac does a great one.

p.s make sure any makeup you buy is non-comedogenic(it basically means it wont clog your pores,it might mean you have to buy more the more expensive brands but its definately worth if it you suffer from acne)

first,if you are not using a gentle cleanser you need one.get one without salicylic acid or any other drying agents.dry skin can make a skin problem worse.try tea tree oil,you can get it at wal mart and it is pretty cheap.it doesn't dry your skin and it doesn't cause oil to form either.i started using it and have noticed a big change.i use mineral makeup and it works well for me.

first, you focus to your skin care. Because only a healthy skin can help makeup looks good. try a water base moisturizer for combination skin.

l'Oreal True Color is great. I heard about it on TV from the editor of In Style and I tried it and I love it.
