Yes! In my day canings were done by the teacher for minor cases of bad behaviour, and became a test of strength to all those watching, could you take the cane without flinching and showing pain afterwards. The tougher you were the more canings you took and walked away as though nothing had happened, even if you were screaming inside, you didn't show it. I took my canings and it made me a better person.
Nowadays children know that they can behave badly and get away with it, because no-one wants to be taken to court over "human rights", and they grow up thinking they can do anything they want and not be punished, which is why you have so many young thugs who don't care what they do and who they do it to, because they just scream about human rights and their punisher goes to jail instead of them.

IMHO, no. Just look at how chilren are being spoiled today.
But having said that, the ideal discipline is not just using the rod. It follows this pattern (1) teach, (2) repeat the teaching, (3) warn, and (4) ask for reason, and if not acceptable use the rod.

NO. I was caned many times at school, and I always thought it was an unnecessary easy way out for ridicuously unimportant misdeamenors, which was invariably dished out without any attempt to understand the reason for the misdeameor, and I certainly believe I was emotionally damaged for many years by the so called punishment (abuse).
Can you sense the ANGER even after 45 YEARS,
It was a very common occurance in the vast majority of secondary
schools in those times.

Oh, yes. You can see the results any day or night out on the streets - kids wasting their lives and benefits away. A lost generation, and what will the next be like. I really fear for mankind. And worse, its gone way beyond redemption, a slap wouldn't help anymore.

The guy that was resposible for banning physical punishment in schools recently admitted it was a major mistake and is directly responsible for the state of society today.

Yes and no. Some children have been preserved from inordinate beatings. However I believe that spanking done in the proper way, and not overdone, can be positive.

Why is it ok to hit children? because they are smaller than you? You dont hit adults who dont do what they are told. Love and communication is the answer. Most people dont have the patience or perserverence to discipline a child without violence. if you hit any one including a child you will lose their trust forever.

don't know about you but i was spanked as a child . only made me nervous and more stubborn to make my view heard ,went school and nuns and priests beat the s--t out of us was total abuse of power .don't think it works on children if you want to help them grow up confident and happy, might do a bit of good to a few teenage punks who vandalise and have no fear of the police if they got a few smacks might fix them and they might think twice if they got smack off cops like in the states
