Please respond ONLY if you have had a similar situation to this or you are an exotic veterinarian or breeder of leopard geckos. . .We found our little leopard gecko, Gidgette, dead in ther cage. We don't know exactly how old she was, but we got her about 3 years ago from a reptile show. According to my daughter, she had been refusing her food. We also found what appeared to be a bloody stoole in her cage. I believe she may have had internal parasites???

Could be that or an infection of some sort. If the crickets were allowed to feed on the gecko's stool, and the gecko ate them - that could have caused a bacterial infection. If you get another gecko, here are some tips: If the tail is thin (a healthy gecko ALWAYS has a big fat tail), and if there is no appetite and/or you start seeing partially digested crickets, then get your gecko to a reptile vet - these are warning signs of serious illness. I speak from experience, as I almost lost my leopard gecko to a bacterial infection. Also - stay away from sand as a substrate. When geckos are eating, they sometimes take in sand, which can cause an impaction in the stomach and kill them.

,This is very possible. Anytime you have a pet, cat dog or exotic, it should see a vet to get a clean bill of health. Intestinal parasites can do this. A stool check, just like with cats and dogs, is highly encouraged for your next exotic, and also an external check for parasites, too.

Sorry for your loss.

WAIT!! You asked this last week...now again?? If it's that much of a concern, ask a VET, not post a question online.

There are many parasites and illnesses that can kill a gecko, and one of the most common symptoms is not eating. The only way to know for sure is to have a necropsy done on the body. Other than that, it will always be a mystery.

So sorry to take heed to approximately your gecko infant. diverse people purchase exotics and by no skill take them to a vet, while in fact, they could desire to be seen, only like cats and dogs. inner and exterior parasites are very, very ordinary! while my EX bought my childrens a snake and a bearded dragon, I insisted on bringing them in to me on the sanatorium I worked for a diverse inspection, additionally insisting that i'm getting a clean stool pattern to evaluation for intestinal parasites. Please, in case you bypass to purchase yet another, only call your vet and ask in the event that they see exotics and have it appeared at. lower back, sorry to take heed to approximately this. i don't be attentive to adequate approximately them that might assist you otherwise.
