I am 31 weeks and at my check-up last week my doctor said I will have the gyn exam at 36 weeks and that is when they will swab for the group B strep. Ask your doctor when he/she plans to do that. It looks like around 36 weeks seems to be normal though.

You're still very early then. Unless there is a suspected problem, there's no reason for an internal exam this early. You will probably do a swab for the Group B Strep test soon though.
Cervical checks really don't give you any useful information anyway. Some midwives don't do one until you are in labor unless you ask. I wouldn't worry about it. You could be 100% effaced and 3-4 cm dilated for a week or more before labor starts. Or closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later. The info from a cervical check is pretty useless.

I got my first internal exam at 36 weeks. Some OBs don't bother doing them until you are 40+ weeks anymore because it doesn't really help you know when you will go into labor.
As for blood work and stuff I've hardly had any. I had blood drawn 2x (only bc I was anemic) and I never had a finger poke.

Usually around week 36-the last month. That is what they did with my 1st pregnancy-18 months ago.I am pregnant with my 2nd-27 weeks-and they have done 2 pelvic exams only because I have been having alot of braxton hicks and they wanted to make sure it was not the real thing.

When I worked in a women's clinic as an interpreter this was the basic routine...
1st visit was w/nurse to get history, do TB test and blood work.
2nd visit was w/OB for a complete physical including pap.
During the 1st trimester, one visit a month, pee in cup, blood pressure, temp, listen to baby's heart rate, ask if any probs..
Between 16 -18 wks (i think) they offered a quad screen blood test.
Second trimester, 2 visits a month, same as before but with an ultrasound around 20 weeks, sugar test around then too. Then at 36 weeks, one visit a week, same deal, pee in cup, temp, etc... Some docs like to check the cervix begining at 36 wks, others wait. My doc asked me at 36 wks, I told him he could start checking at 40wks. I delivered at 41 wks.
Every visit, of course, moms-to-be had to pee in a cup.
That's about it if you are having an uncomplicated pregnancy there is no need for more.
Of course YOU are the patient and you can ask your Doc anything!! You rule!!
Good luck & congrats!

Well, it all depends on your doctor or midwife. I had a doctor for my first child and he examined me only after 37 weeks. Then at 38 weeks stripped my membranes to help move delivery along. Had my daughter that night.
My second doctor asked me every visit after 36 weeks if I wanted to be examined. If I said no, he didn't. I said no until almost 38 weeks. Ha, had my son the 3 days later.
My sister in law's midwife asked her for the last 3 weeks if she wanted examined. She is 40 weeks now. (YES POOR THING!)
My friends doctor said "I will not examine you until the week before your due date.
So. . . each doctor is different. I believe I gave blood every month at my doctor's visits, so that consuses me as to why you haven't had to do that. Do they do urinalysis each visit? And yes, they should be doing the Strep b soon too. That isn't a biggie, if you have it, they will just put Antibiotics in your IV (I was positive with my son, negative with my daughter)
I pray you have a safe, easy and decently timed labor! :) Update us in the "comments" when your baby comes! :)

Made me smile!!!! Things sure do change don't they? To answer your question, they SHOULD in the 32-34th week start and at about the 36 week they will do weekly exams and sometimes a sonogram in around the 38th week. If I'm wrong don't look at me, blame the finicky doctors!!!!!!Good Luck.

No no longer till approximately one month till now your due date. as quickly as you initiate getting in a week then they verify it. So i think i became into approximately 37 weeks while she checked mine the 1st time. Im 39 now and that i pass in the following day and she or he'll be checking returned. That'll be the third time shes executed it.

Every pregnancy is different, expecially if you have a different midwife/doctor. and maybe there will be some things that you dont have to do this time. or maybe you should get a different doctor
