I have a 9 month old infant and my milk supply is very low and I am dipping into my freezer supply. I am desperate to make at least the one year mark. Please assist. Thank you!

There are lots of other things I'd suggest before domperidone (motillium).

First off.....are you breastfeeding and pumping or are you exclusively pumping? What makes you feel like your supply is low? Is it based on baby's behavior, how much you're pumping? Many times moms feel their supply is low and it's actually something else.

The very best way to boost supply is to nurse or pump more often. Remember that it's all supply and demand. Take advantage of a couple of the days of this long weekend to do nothing but nurse and rest. Let someone else do the housework and cook if you can. Have lots of skin to skin contact and nurse, nurse, nurse!

Have you recently started hormonal birth control or seen the return of your period? One of those things could have had an effect on your supply.

If you find that nursing more often doesn't do the trick, try an herbal remedy before prescription drugs. Fenugreek is very good at boosting supply. Check the link below as there are a few people who shouldn't take it. The typical dosage is 3-4 capsules 3x per day. You'll smell a bit like maple syrup, but it works well.

Make sure you are eating well and staying hydrated. Oatmeal is also a good supply booster, so start eating oatmeal for breakfast every day.

Hope this helps some!

I have never heard of that. Try eating oatmeal everyday and drinking mothers milk tea. Check out this link. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/T027100.asp#T027101

When my supply dropped after pumping at work for too many months I was prescribed Reglan (generic metocloperamide). It worked very well. Keep up the great work!

Frequent pumping/feeding, relaxing, drinking plenty of water and eating well all help. In my case it was not enough and my gynecologist prescribed Reglan which does help a bit. I have heard that fenugreek and chamomile tea help too but I can't vouch for it.
