Peaches knows nothing about cars tranny fluid and the transfer case have nothing to do with each other. Is your switch electronic or is it a manual floor shift? When you engage it does anything happen? Usually 4Lo you need to be in neutral to engage. You can tell if your 4Hi is working by engaging it and driving it in a circle. If you get a tire hop, it is working. You probablly need to take it in to a shop to have it looked at. Good luck

Sounds like its bound up. Jack all four wheels off of the ground. Put the tranny in neutral. Then try to shift the transfer case. If you can't shift it then....you have a major problem with your transfer case...or the tailshaft bushing in your tranny might be froze up. Good luck.
