There is an expression called, "lawyered up". They do it for the same reason it says in the lawn mower instructions not to stick your fingers in the path of a moving blade.

These are the same questions I like to ask. Some machines are installed for walk up traffic and others are in drive throughs. My guess is since the company that makes them doesn't know where they will go they put Braille on all of them.

You got me there. First of all, the sightless driver have to drive to town, weave into the path that leads to the machine that has the braille instruction, punch his numbers in, wait until the machine spits the money, counts the money and drives off again.

firstly I've never paid attention but I'm not even sure it's true
secondly those atm's are standard devices and it would be quite costly to make special, non-braille atm's just for the few drive-through sites
