if the child is really young and will not stay still, a rectal thermometer is safer. if its achild safe digital, have the child sit still and put it under their tongue and have them close their lips around it. if you wait a few seconds it should beep or flash to let you know its done and will then display the temperature.

Depends how old the child is. and if the baby is small under the arms is fine. I found it to be the easiest place as well. they also make digital thermometers that you place on the forehead and click the button less than a second it reads out.
