I hate needles too! When I have to get my blood drawn, I tell the nurse that I am scared of needles. This helps her know that I'm a little worried about the situation. They are always really nice to me. I usually look away and just have them talk me through it. Sometimes, if I'm feeling really queasy, I'll lay down instead of sitting up.

However, I've always made it through without fainting or anything! It doesn't hurt... it's just a quick little sting. After the necessary amount of blood is drawn, pressure is applied with some gauze and then you'll probably get a bandage.

And really--if you faint or scared or nauseous, just tell the person who is drawning your blood and they'll make sure you're okay and that you're comfortable. It might help too if you can just think of something pleasant to distract you from your anxiety.

Good luck!!

Isabella, you are going to be okay. I hate needles worse than anyone, but the blood test is the easiest, even easier than an injection. 15 seconds maybe.

You will sit down at a school desk type chair, and the nurse will wrap a rubber tourniquet around your upper arm just to get your blood vessels to swell up a little. Then she'll swab some alcohol on the inside bend of your elbow, then she'll say "little sting" and the needle goes in. Then she'll remove the rubber tourniquet, then remove the needle, and you're done.

Easy money, just stay relaxed and close your eyes. Good Luck

Ok, the first time I got a blood test, I fainted. Not during, but a few seconds after. Since then I,ve gotten 2 more and I haven't fainted.I suggest that if you faint easily or are easily squirmish, first of all, DON'T LOOK! Close your eyes, try to relax, because it really doesn't hurt that much. The needle is not that big. And ask the nurse if you can lie down instead of sitting down, in case you feel weak. You'll be ok, if you follow my guidelines. Don't worry. The nurse just wraps an elastic around your arm to find a vein, and sticks it in, all you feel is a little pinch.

It is the same size needle, the nurse will draw the blood from your inner elbow. It pinches a little when they insert the needle, same as an injection. It takes less than ten seconds to fill the vial. Best idea is to look the other way until she is done if you are worried about pain or scared of needles, it works for me and seems like it gets done faster.

First of all you will need to relax, that will make your veins easier to find. It is not as bad as getting a shot. It will hurt but only for a second. Usually thinking about is worse then anything. The nurse will try a tourniquet around your arm, then clean it with some alcohol, then he or she will find a vein and insert the needle. The blood will go into a tube and that only takes a could of seconds. Then you will be done. A little band-aid and you are good to go.

I hate needles to but dont worry its bad at first but bring a picture wiggle your fingers and you'll be fine as long as you dont worry stay lose not tight! and you'll do great if you need anything else write to me at H_U_L_A101@yahoo.com I'll check for you!!! Good Luck and focus on something... The nurse will sit you in the chair and then she will tie a band around your upper arm that isn't very fun and then she'll stick it in your bendy part of your arm and if you just let her do it it will only take about 3 seconds. and the blood will keep comeing out she will probably get 3 small tubes of blood... It might hurt a little not to much if you just follow what I say o and dont look at the needle either!

Good Luck

Nope nothing to be nervous about, though hospitals and clinics can make you. There are basically two ways its done... One is where just a drop or two is needed.. first your finger is wiped with an alcohol swab and its given a slight prick with a lancet... you can hardly feel it. and a drop or two of blood is taken on a glass slide. For some tests a little more blood is needed.. for this, a syringe is used.. Just a normal size injection.. the area near your inner elbow or on your arm is cleaned by an alcohol swab... and blood is drawn.. not much .. just a little.. Also, Alcohol tends to numb your skin a little... So forget any pain!!!

I had my first just a little while ago. I was freaked too, at first, until it actually happened. Trust me, it is not as bad as you think its going to be. I hate needles, too, and it really wasn't all that bad. It was not painful at all- if you've ever had your ears pierced, well, it hurts even less than that. I didn't even realize they stuck the needle in at first when I got my blood test! Just relax and don't worry about it; it will be over before you know it.
