It doesn't work, it just makes you sick. The only reason why it has ever worked is because the oil causes diahrea, which cases the rectum to spasm, which may in turn put pressure on the uterurin muscles and make them spasm as well. Not fun, even if it did have to work, do you really want to be havin diahrea during labor? yuck!

If you use castor oil DO NOT drink it. First off it tastes nasty, secondly it causes diarrhea and you do not want that while you are in labor. If you are going to use it rub it on your belly and cover the area w/ saran wrap and place a heating pad or moist wash clothes over it. It still helps to induce labor w/ out the bad side effects. I will warn you it is messy though! Also, rubbing your nipples for extended periods of time, sex and walking help to induce contractions also.

There's no conclusive evidence that Castor oil induces labor as there haven't been studies on it. It may cause the baby to pass meconium (first bowel movement) inutero. If you're 38 weeks and already dilating on your own you can try doing squats to speed things up. Just hold the squat as long as you can and then push down. Do it as many times as you can. Good luck and all the best.

Yes, it does work. I took it and had my son afterwards. I took it about 5:00 pm and had him at 2:18 am. Don't know if the castor oil is the reason, but my labor only lasted 28 minutes after my water broke! Good luck!

It is an old wives tale and there is no scientific proof to suggest otherwise. I have a hard time believing that your doctor told you to take Castor oil when it is not recommended at all during pregnancy.

Think about this: Castor Oil is used to lubricate the intestine and promote bowel movements. If you take Castor oil, you can cause yourself to have diarrhea and dehydration-you will be dehydrating your baby. Do you really want to do that?

If by some unknown reason, you did go into labor, how comfortable do you think you would be having labor and diarrhea at the same time?

If you really can't wait to go into labor naturally-orgasm and walking are the only statistically proven methods for bringing on labor.

DON"T do it! I speak from experience. It made me sick and made that baby have a BM while still inside. So when he finally came out he had to be given medicine so he wouldn't get an infection in his lungs.......do to the BM waste. I would never recommend that to anyone. My baby was fine, but I guess they did it as a precaution.

If you want to get the ball rolling try walking and more walking. Sex and more sex....rotate the two. Just thought I would share with you what happened to me. Take care and good luck. Congrats too :)

yes it does work , i was due on april 16 and i wanted son to be born the same day as his father which was april 13 so i took at 11:50pm on april 12th , i took it with warm tea . i would not advise you doing it . i began to cramp and really hurt alot during labor and you don't want to do anything to hurt the baby. i was yelled at by doctor for doing so . my son was 8lbs and healthly thank god . just nature takes it coarse or leave it up to your doctor. good luck!!!
