Absolutely. Sex gives us the same thing that alcohol and drugs do: a chemically altered mental state. Having sex isn't only fun, but it stimulates your body into releasing happy chemicals and it's completely possible to get hooked on that feeling, especially when getting there is so fun =D

A lot of people who become sexual addicts end up doing so because they feel alone and unwanted. They use sex to fill the void in their lives and the increased chemicals and hormones ease their pain for a while, but it doesn't last so they have to seek out more. They become addicted to the emotional engagement of sex more than the act itself.

These people may not feel down, depressed & hopeless. It may have started with a simple sexual engagement while they were a bit bummed, but the subconcious tied that temporary feeling of happiness with the act and sent them looking for more.

There are also other causes. The National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (NCSAC) has done some research and I also found a link for you as well. See below.

Yes everything in the material world can be addicting. If we are attached to material things this is an addiction. This sex desire and attachment is something that can bring us back to the material world birth after birth. One should give up this attachment or addiction and not take birth in the material world again. Absolutely, Michael Douglas for one has openly admitted to having a problem with controlling his sexual urges. He admitted to be an "adultery" and lost a marriage of many many years, before he met and married his current wife, Catherin Zeta Jones. There is treatment for this disorder like anything else gambling, drinking, abusing, and many other treatments. So if you think you have the problem, speak to your family doctor and start. This disorder could lead to your Death and the death of innocent victims. Get TESTED if you are talking about yourself, get tested anyway. Good Luck.

while it seems the answer is yes, i don't quite agree. all drugs produce an artificial state that we can live without. however, with sex, if we didn't do it the human race wouldn't exist.
