You must first be admitted to the university to apply for housing! Once you are admitted to the university, apply for housing as soon as possible to guarentee a spot in the dorms.
All of the different universities are different when it comes to housing. Some schools have guarenteed housing for freshman. Some schools are first come, first serve. Therefore, once you are admitted to the university, apply for the housing and you should be fine and will have a place to live on a college campus!
As an former insided in university housing at a Cal State, there is always some room in the dorms. Even in you apply late and they say that there is no room... still contact the office personally and tell them your story. They'll probably be able to find you a place to stay on campus.

Correct. Current students have priority. But, having your admissions requirements met and the deposit paid is better than waiting until the last minute. Find out from your school how many students are returning and need dorms, how many students will be incoming and need dorms, and how many dorms are available now. Also, find out if your deposit is refundable if no space is available. Call and ask to speak to a housing director.

no!!! the students currently there have first priority, provided they are not delinquents and bad students...depending on the dorm. but if you apply super early, you could get rejected for early application. but...if youre in before all the others, then you should have priority over those who send in their applications really early. good luck!! :) dorm life is great.
