You were a bit vague about the actual job descriptions. It's hard to judge what the sacrifices are in order to "get" your money. If you just want the higher pay sure you could choose the $170K in Africa. However, since we don't know what you'll have to do for that $...you might want to consider...the polical strife (ethnic/tribal) violence, the actual distance...if your family lives here in the US...how often will you be able to visit...there are specific health restrictions that can be imposed on you once you get back into the states. A co-worker can no longer donate blood because she lived for a certain time in Africa. You might want to check with the CDC. As for the $ being "tax" free, what about the other expenses you will incur...housing, airfare, medical/health insurance...what factors "eat" into that $170K. Cultural differences, keep in mind 1 yr. is short if you love a place...but if you hate it...1 yr. can seem like eternity. On the other hand, Canada is close in proximity to the US (assuming that you are American and have family here). There political infrastructure is very stable. A permanent position is never a bad thing. I know people who make twice what I make but then got laidoff for the next two years....so. It's all about what you want. Just think it through at every angle.

Just think of what you would learn in Africa and what an experience it would be. I was stationed overseas in Germany when I was in the Army and it was one of the greatest experiences I ever had. I think it's a serious decision for you and depends on what you would like to do. In Africa you would see a lot of poverty and racism and you could make a positive impact on it. In Canada it is beautiful and the people are very kind. Good luck. I wish you the best.

All depends on the job on offer in Africa. If you want experience, Africa would be something interesting to put on your resume. And lets face it, the moneys almost 3 years earnings in Canada.

If its the same job in either country, then I would head for Africa. Youll save most of the money you make as well, unlike at home.

I would choose Africa. How do you know that the job in Canada is permanent. No job is permanent.

the 107k tax free sounds good but its only 1 year what about after that? can you take the 107k now and then go to the 60k? if not go for the 60k its long term and you have to think about your future, if you make 60k in one year you can make 120k in 2 years and still be employd but with the other you make 107 in one year and then your unemployed. and thats not fun.
