I bought an already cooked turkey dinner from Wal-Mart and picked it up today. I had no ides it would come FROZEN SOLID!
I was going to take it back but when we were going to buy a turkey to make ourself they were just as frozen. Is it possible to cook a turkey like this? Can you leave it at room temperature over night to thaw it? Any new suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!

It's a 12 Pound Turkey.

how big is it?

"Quick" Thawing:...

Place turkey in its original wrapping in sink and cover with COLD water. Change the water every 1/2 hour to maintain the temperature. Allow 1/2 hour per pound to defrost the turkey. Most turkeys will take from 5 to 10 hours to thaw.

I can't believe that Wal-Mart sold you a frozen bird, but it is, cooked and there should be instructions to thaw it. It also should have a Safe Handling tag on it, if not take it back. It's not worth getting sick, Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving. Stay Safe.

Use a measurement of 185 degrees with a meat thermometer inserted in the thigh. If it is stuffed, make sure the stuffing is at 165 degrees.

I'm assuming this is a stuffed turkey---I'd be real tempted to just leave it out until maybe midnight--then put it in the fridge and bake it early tomorrow at about 300--I don't know!!! That's probably what I would do tho!! Bake it covered tightly (i'd do foil and a lid) with a tad of water in the pan, so it doesn't dry. Good Luck!!!

Leave it in your frig covered overnight. You don't want salmonella poisoning. In the morning take it out, cover it, and leave out until ready to cook.
Preheat the oven to 350, and re-heat it. It's best to use a meat thermometer so you don't over cook it. It's supposed to be cooked already but not hot yet.

Don't sweat it. You'll be fine. It'll be fine. Cover it when you cook it so it stays juicy.

Happy Thanksgiving.

wow! Will it fit in your microwave? If not, and it is in a leak proof plastic bag, immerse it in cold water. I really think you could also thaw it in the oven. What a pain! Good luck & happy Thanksgiving!
