Tomorrow will be the first time I have ever hosted Thanksgiving. Both of my parents (they are divorced, but they get along really well, they are really good friends aside from us kids) my brother, his wife and their two small children and my husband will be here. We have a small house, so even though we don't have lots of knick-knacks our house seems "full". Should I take down personal items like family pictures and collections in lieu of Thanksgiving decor? What is Thanksgiving decor? Will the house look tacky and over done if I do decorate since it is small? Thanks for any suggestions.
--I will have a set table with linens and a center piece, probably a low level flower/fruit bouquet.

A few small arrangements using fall colors & candles should do the trick- I wouldn't hang anything, though . A wreath on your door is nice.

Just use a vase or two with fall flowers or greenery with some fall leaves from the yard (if there are any left)
Pine cones look nice in a basket. You could have the kids make a turkey from pine cones too, just cut colored paper and glue in a fan shape for the tail. You can glue a paper head on the front, or use a pecan or other nut for the head.
Certainly I would not take down the family pictures....Thanksgiving IS family!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!

You dont need to do anything fancy. Just try to put things together with the most Autumn colors you can find.
Or just set the table with the colors. Run to party city real Quick and with $20 you can find some simple but pretty things to put up according to your taste.
Yes a nice centre peice would go a long way. Maybe after that you wont even need anything else.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

A nice centerpiece on the table, maybe a fall scented candle in the bathroom and living room, that's all I would do. I wouldn't go all out for Thanksgiving decor (whatever that is!!). Far as I'm concerned you've done good!!

In my opinion, the best types of decorations are simple, but meaningful. Leave your family pictures on, but maybe put a little stand-up turkey on a table. Try being color coordinating. It always helps, but some people don't understand the concept of it. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!!

You can go out and purchase some fall colored flowers. Mums for this time of year are my favorite they come in all sorts of wonderful fall colors, burgandy, gold, deep orange place 2-4 around your home. It will look pretty and I think less is more. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

No, don't over do it. If you make a nice cornecopia or fruit centerpiece, that should be enough . If the kids are little, candles would not be a good idea, but a spicy or vanilla scent will make it festive without being crowded. have a Happy thanksgiving!!
