Yes, you will probably have some cramping within a week or a little less before you go into labor. However, every pregnancy/labor experience is different. If your 'bag of water' breaks than you need to go into the hospital ASAP. You should notice this occurance as this 'usually' is a lot of fluid. Do not get into the shower at home or do anything else if your bag of water does break-just head to the hospital. If you begin to bleed moderatly to heavily than you will need to go into the hospital to be checked. Right away if you are bleeding heavily. Light bleeding or spotting is okay. I would just call your doctor to inform them of this. I would call your OB-gyn or nurse-midwife if you have any questions or concerns. Do you feel the baby moving? The baby will slow down towards the end of pregnacy as there is less space for movement within the uterus as the baby grows bigger. However, you should feel some fetal movement. I know that this time (right before your due date) can be scary. Is this your first baby? If so, than you will 'probably' have longer to be able to stay at home before having to head into the hospital after you begin having contractions as 'most' first babys come with longer labors. Have you had any contractions? Contractions, or tightening of the uterine muscles, should come and go regularly and not disapate. Otherwise, is probably Braxton-Hicks contractions (or false labor.) If your contractions become 12 minutes apart than I would call your OB-gyn if I were you. If you have a history of having very fast labors than I would put a call into your doctor as soon as contractions become 15 minutes apart. If you live far away from the hospital (more than 30-40 minutes) than I would call sooner. Some woman go overdue but full term can be anywhere from 37 weeks on, I believe. For 38 weeks and beyond, for sure. So, I would not worry about prematurity. My OB-gyn wanted to induce me if I went more than one week overdue as if the baby stays inside of you for too long than this can become more of a risk for the baby and for you. As the baby will become even bigger in size. However, being induced often increases the length of labor, I have heard. So, I would wait to see if you go into natural labor first. I would wait for at least a week over your due date. Do you know if your baby is in the head down positon? If you baby is breech (feet first) than vaginal delivery is harder. Your doctor might try to perform a c-section if so. You will probably have an increase in mucosy (spelling?) discharge within a couple of days before going into labor. Yes, if you have any questions I would call your OB-gyn or nurse-midwife. No question is silly when it comes to pregnancy and childbirth. You will feel more comfortable if you are prepared or know what to expect. With this in mind, nothing is 100% predictable. Be prepared to be flexible and to do whatever is best for your baby. Good luck.

This is very normal... if there is a pattern to your cramps, then you should contact your midwife/doc. If it's just a constant feeling or no real pattern to them then I would say it's just B/H or false labour. Either way if you're concerned about this you should call your doc/midwife to ease any worries.
Congrats and good luck w/ your labour!!
I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant and have been feeling menstral like cramps on and off for a week now, but there hasn't been any pattern to them. My midwife told me if there is no pattern then it's just the your body getting ready for labour and only B/H.

Very Normal. Labor pains do feel like menstral cramps, but they just get worse. It will happen soon, having little menstral cramps now your body is just getting ready for the big day.
I feel for you because the last days of pregnancy get very long, the sleepness nights, being very uncomfortable. When they put that baby in your arms, all is forgotten!

You can be dilated 1cm for ages and it does not mean that much. Cramps are normal, thats what beginning of labour feels like. By the way its not as bad as everyone says, Good luck. Sleep now, you wont get any during labour or for about 3 days after so just rest and let nature take its course.

Congratulations! You are so close!

Yes! Those cramps are completely normal. They are called Braxton Hicks contractions and they are warming your body up for the real thing!

They will stay Braxton Hicks contractions until they are in a regular pattern and coming at regular intervals. THEN they are real contractions and it's time to call Labor & Delivery.

How exciting.

Try not to go nuts. That angel will be here VERY VERY SOON. (And don't get completely upset if he/she doesn't show up "on time". Babies are funny that way..they come when they come!)

The contractions are propbably just braxton hicks contractions( false labor) unless you start having really strong and frequent contractions that are regular just try to relax. It will happen soon enough. You should try to sleep a lot because in the next few days you will wish that you did. Good luck from a mom of 3

Sounds like you are slowly getting there. I had the period cramps feelings with each of my pregnancies right before I was in full blown labor. Good luck and congrats.

It's normal, you wilL be having your baby soon- I know that it is uncomfortable, but you're going to get a baby to make up for it all- you have just gone through almost 40 weeks of pregnancy- YOU CAN DO THE LAST FEW DAYS!!!

Absolutely. Those are either real contactions or Braxton Hicks, also known as false labor.
