I know what some of you may say. That it is going to be made stronger this time, but an attack could still cause damage to peoples' lives as well as property.

It's supposed to be a way of saying, "We haven't lost". When someone kicks over your sandcastle, you don't just lament over it and leave the beach forever. It's showing them that you're so devasted by it that you never even want to think of that castle again. They won and we only continue doing it because you showed them if affected you so much.
Instead, you should rebuild that sandcastle bigger and better. Then you can say to them, "Do what you like--kick it over. But just know it won't stop me. I'll build it out of cement if I have to."

It might be a stupid idea, but it's symbolism people want to hold on to with hope that it will make a difference.

Most people would need them for the rememberence and some want it there since it really made a major change to the scenery. When people think of the view of NY. The towers are there. Also by replacing them we show that it does not stop us from building high buildings and we are strong and able to continue our way of life.

yes... but at this point everyone is a target. whether it's the twin towers, the london subway, the railway systems... it's all a target. we have to go on with our lives and not be terrorized by terrorists, otherwise they have proven that violence and death can rule the world. we must build and grow as we would to prove that peace and tolerance are stronger than intimidation and pain.

Money chasing prominence and power sometimes leaves caution to the winds. But it does buy insurance just in case.

Note that people have a shorter life span than the structures meant to maintain their lives. The structures then take on an importance all their own.

It is supposed to mean that the terrorist can attack us all they want but we can get back up again. That America is a strong nation that won't let tragedy define them.
